cold air intake?

I have to respectively disagree with the ideas of a cold air intake not doing anything (at leas in '96+ models) i built my own cold air intake for about 60$ (including the filter) and i get a good 2-3 MPG better sometimes 4, and a noticeable power increase. the problem with the stock air box is its opening is only about 1.75 inches in diameter (again not sure about 1st gen but i think its similar) and the box also doesn't do a very good job of keeping hot air out because its plastic. As long as the heat shield in the CAI deflects heat effectively then you will have cold air coming in. You say there is no cold air in the Engine compartment, this is true but the heat shield deflects the heat in the the compartment and funnels the the cold air coming in from the front into the filter. i can drive my truck for an hour, pull over and stick my hand in the engine compartment then in the heat shield compartment and its very much cooler (tried it). Also the 3 inch pipe instead of the 1.75 is where a lot of the power comes from.
This is just my opinion backed by actual facts but again im not 100% sure if the same things apply to first gens but i am 100% sure a CAI will help, and if you build your own you save alot of $.

ok so please excuse how stupid this is going to sound. but i googled the k&n drop in to see what it looks like and all that i am seeing is a straight filter that looks like it should be on an ATV. other than that it was the CAI. so when you say drop in are you just talking about the filter and it fits into the stock housing?

Yes, it is a direct replacement for the stock air filter. The benefit comes from being less restrictive than the stock air filter and therefore flows more air. I have the KN in my 2000 GMC Jimmy and my 89 S15 Jimmy and have seen improvements in both vehicals.

Hey guys I have a CAI in my 97 blazer right now and it's working good but I was looking into the Weapon-R Secret Weapon Air Intake and was wondering if anyone had anything good or bad to say about it, I've read a lot of reviews by tuners saying they are great but haven't found anything buy anyone putting then in 1st or 2nd gen Blazers or Jimmys, so any info would be great thanks

In my opinion, there is a negligible difference between each intake setup. The quality of the filter and how good of a heat shield you make (or the kit comes with) should be of more concern than the rest of the intake. A $300 cold air intake is no different than a $60 cold air intake once you replace the filter and make a heat shield.
