Does your girlfriend/wife ever give you crap about our dirty greasy mechanic hands?

My girlfriend of 3 months has been giving me grief about it even though she knows that id give her up before my hobbies anyday lol.

http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/a...10227-1811.jpg

i have tried wearing gloves...i just cant keep them on...i cant feel what i am doing with them on.
yeah yours look pretty good compared to mine on avg day.
i find that avg dish soap and shampoo work best.

pettyfog 03-14-2012 05:40 PM

Wife doesnt, esp after working on her car.

Girlfriend does...
Bwhahahahahahahaa! Made you do a double-take

chris015 03-14-2012 05:41 PM

lol those arent mine.

Ive actually found the only hand cleaner that works. its that orange pumice from autozone. Its gotta be the type that has the sand or w.e it is in it. cleans mine up pretty darn good.

Now my fingernails. meh w.e. If we are going somewhere fancy to meet relatives etc il sit there with a dental pick and scrubbrush till they are clean.

edit. pettyfog...I lol'd.

LOL

any ways i never took a picture of my hands after working on something but i gotta admit Im glad i dont have any 1 complaining =P

any ways i was gonna say whats up with the wedding band chris but then i read the last post lol

also im the same way warthog I cant wear em .....
I only use gloves when playing with the atv in the snow or bringing wood inside the house or feeding the animals in the winter

war00 03-14-2012 06:14 PM

yea my wife complained for the first few years but not soo much about my hands them selves but the marks on the walls, doors, sink, toilet, im sure you get the point but than she got use to it and only complains now when i leave tools laying around the house.

swartlkk 03-14-2012 06:18 PM

No complaints from the wife, but I sure complain. Especially during the winter when my skin would crack so bad it would bleed... Cracks on the finger tips are especially painful!

The right rubber glove is worth it's weight in gold! I used to get cracks in my finger tips, knuckles, and on the sides of my fingers from oils/solvents/etc. Picked up a pack of Diamond Grip rubber gloves after we started using them to serve our fish dinners at the fire hall a few years back and have been using them ever since. They're cheap & rather robust. Best part, clean hands when I'm done. Still have to wash my arms/face/etc, but my hands are clean!

For sheetmetal/welding work, I use Honeywell Cut-Resistant gloves when I don't have my welding gloves on.

If you really want to get a rise out of your wife or significant other, leave a lug nut or two in your pockets and see how she reacts when they make their way to the drier!

bahahahahaha yea i left a stubby wrench and impact socket in my work cloths once that ended up in the drier......talk about being mad when the /washer drier wasnt even a couple weeks old.

ohsofly 03-14-2012 07:35 PM

I used to have the gross hands when i was in the trade... Then i found doctors gloves. They do tear easier, bit worth it.

I used to use this lotion calles "second skin" and it makes washing up alot easier and cleaner.

It wasnt till i left the trade that i got my "lovin hands" back. I found its the cleaner itself that makes my hands cracked and dry.

Now, when i work on my truck i washup with hair shampoo and a handful of sugar for the grit. Soft as my baboes bums after and no dryness. also cheaper than cleaner.

In answer to your question... No, she doesnt like filthy hamds, and i dont blame her cause i wouldnt want those hands allover my va-jay-jay either.

Edit - sorry for the fat-finger-smartphone speak

chris015 03-14-2012 07:39 PM

LOL.

Sugar eh?

Hmmmmm. imma give that a try.

TripleBlackBlazer 03-14-2012 08:36 PM

I wear greasy hands as a badge of honor and take pride that I work on my own stuff, when I can. I also find that the APS employees take you seriously when your hands aren't squeaky clean.

But they sure do take the fun out of picking your nose...

And pattin' your wife on the a$$ or givin' somethin' else a little squeeze! :icon_verzsilly:

Rottidog 03-14-2012 09:51 PM

Black Stuff is the best all around cleaner next to acetone especially for grease etc & doesn't dry the hands out or can kill you like acetone lol. Another product is something Natural Green, it's in a flake form & is awsome.

neo71665 03-15-2012 02:15 AM

My g/f works on her own car so she knows how it is.

I use gojo hand cleaner. Stuff is dirt cheap and cleans anything off.

xgiovannix12 03-15-2012 09:17 AM

yup gojos some good stuff also

richphotos 03-15-2012 02:21 PM

my girlfriend loves it.. and i have been with her 7 years. She's a keeper.

as for hand cleaner, if you dont have gojo, use comet. it works great..
One thing my girlfriend hated though was when she had this body scrub stuff, had this pumas type stuff in it and I used it for my hands, it worked great though haha

Rottidog 03-19-2012 10:26 PM

My gf thinks & I quote: "I think it's sexy when you work with your hands fixing or building something & you get kind of dirty n grubby, it's a turn-on that you're able to fix things & work like that"

Can you see why I love her? lol

xgiovannix12 03-19-2012 10:27 PM

yea ...... lol

Rottidog 03-19-2012 10:41 PM

Lol I was talking to her about this thread & that was a quote, as she said it & I typed.
How awesome is that - you work on your blazer or her car, things around the house etc, get things fixed & at a do-it-yourself price AND it turns your significant other on?!
<insert Old Milwaukee commercial here> It doesn't get any better than this!

What's that commercial when a guy walks in, slaps his wife on the ass with a greasy hand, leaves a handprint & she yelps HEY as he reaches in the fridge for a beer?
Imagine her going to the store, inlaws, parents, church totaly oblivious to the handprint? lmao

duxtoyz 03-20-2012 10:14 AM

im not allowed to touch the wife until my hands and nails are clean. (cant keep my hands off her anyhow). so i wear gloves now cause im sick of always scrubbing my hands, plus i cant touch anything automotive without cutting myself, so they save me from that too.
:icon_dance-cpatch:

abig84 03-21-2012 11:54 PM

i always wear gloves... more or less to keep from cutting my hands. i buy those cheepo black cloth ones with like the rubber on the front at harbor freight. use them for a few days til you get so much oil or grease on them it starts soaking through then throw them out. they work great cause they are thin, those thick mechanic gloves always pissed me off cause they are so thick and end up having to take them off every other time you are working on something

99Legendary 04-26-2012 02:46 PM

I was up late one night working on my old acura, and drove to the girlfriends house to sleep without getting a shower beforehand.

Opened up her front door, not a single light on, and I didn't turn any on because I knew how to get through the house. Anyway, I was walking upstairs to her room and her dog was laying right on the stairs in pure dark, I almost tripped but saved myself by catching the wall.

Let's just say ever since the next morning, I gotta get showers before I get there, and after I get there. The wall looked like there were children with finger paint touching it.

04-26-2012 03:20 PM

This is Gods gift to domestic bliss. You rub your hands and forarms with it before you start. It drys in about a min. Then when you wash up every thing comes of even under nails.Amazon.com: BlueMagic 5216 Invisible Glove Hand Coating - 18 oz. Tub: Automotive

megaroos_00 04-27-2012 09:21 PM

Me thinks your GFs have it all wrong. If my bf has dirty hands, that means that he's fixed something on my blazer that I either didn't want to or didn't know how to. I'm so appreciative that I could care less about his hands. :)

user 1016 04-30-2012 02:51 PM

Wow, talk about a sausage fest of comments!! You boys are so silly! I married a diesel mechanic....sooooo let me tell you about diesel grease...it's way worse than automotive grease. Like someone else said, I don't mind the greasy fingernails and hands...I think it's manly sexy..but, it's the FINGERPRINTS and smears!!!! Drives me crazy!! He can't navigate the house without touching absolutely EVERYTHING!!! The doors, light switches, refrigerator handles, door jams, side of doors, walls by light switches. I don't even know how he manages to touch some things! What I hate the most??? Going to walk outside, grabbing the door handle and getting a handful of grease!

But then again, some times I'm the one leaving greasy fingerprints!!

(I also love never having to pay $600-$1,000 for vehicle repairs every time the car makes a funny noise!!)

TripleBlackBlazer 04-30-2012 08:57 PM

Welcome back Karin!

Hanr3 04-30-2012 09:26 PM

BEst thing I found to clean my greasy hands is Dawn dish soap. Dawn is specifically designed to cut through grease, and it leaves your hands without the dish pan hand feel.

I've tried all the other shop soaps, from pumice to orange peels. Dawn still works the best, and the best part, we always have it in the kitchen. Both updtairs and the basement. Yea, I have a kitchen in the basement. I use it for brewing beer. The wife uses the second stove for family holiday cooking.

xgiovannix12 04-30-2012 09:29 PM

Yea i found dish soap to work good too

And yes, Dawn is the best....However, I have no freaking clue what they put in those Mr. Clean Magic erasers, but wow, nothing gets rid of grease better than those!!

You know, living the dream.....Na, it's been a rough couple of years, but things are looking up. I'm finishing up my nursing school, so this time next year I'll be a nurse! Yeah, moving on up, making the money!! Getting older and wiser..moved on from playing in the blazer to riding my motorcycle.
How about you? What have you been up to? I should start a catch up with people post!

Hanr3 05-01-2012 09:51 PM

Living the dream. lol
Tough last couple of years here too. FInally found a job that may last or lead to one that will. Time will tell.
Moved on to a boat and fishing, just traded the S-Blazer in for a nused TrailBlazer. Went from 212,000 miles to 56,000 even though its a 2004.
Both the sons have completed college, married, and have bought houses. Youngest son married a RN. Awesome pay and great hours. Glad to hear your doing well, and planning the dream, and then living it.

Congratulations on getting your Nursing Degree. You will never be without a job. Are you going to work in hospital, doctors office, or working as a traveling nurse? I just got back from a vacation to Laughlin NV & I met & talked with a traveling nurse that works in Las Vegas. She told me she has been offered full time work in every hospital in Las Vegas but said she was not willing to take that big of pay cut from working contract. I have met & talked with other traveling nurses & that to me would be the ticket. I even know a traveling Doctor that bases out of Las Vegas I first met her in Mammoth Lakes CA.
You will have a world of opportunities in front of you.
My wife has a Masters in Special Education & a Masters as a Reading Specialist, she also never has to worry about a job. She is licensed in three States. Regular Ed teachers are being cut but they can't find enough SPED Teachers, just as with Nurses.

CenTexBiker 05-01-2012 11:09 PM

back to original subject lol
sorry I do not know Ms Paddle

I run my fingernails on a bar of soap till underneath them is filled with soap

I think shampoo does the best... it is easier on the skin
but
sometimes you need to go with the harder stuff so then I use gojo

Wow! I hear you on the job thing. I lost mine 2 years ago, collected my 99 weeks now I work at a part time/ per diem filler job until I'm done with school. Then the hubby gets to retire for a bit. I'm doing it for him as he's had to carry us the last couple of years. With the pay I'm expecting, we'll be financially stable and he can have to opportunity to work someplace he likes, or whatever he wants to do. He deserves a break, poor guy! I'm glad things are looking up for you too! I think it's been kinda rough for everyone. I still have the mighty blaze....however, it's the third vehicle...I call her Crusty now!!! I am looking to replace it with a diesel station wagon...something about 40+ miles to the gallon makes me happy!

chris015 05-04-2012 11:47 AM

Not exactly my Gf but i did the brakes on my grandmothers yota. Shes a clean freak...well...i didnt think nothing of it and walked into her house and got a water out of the fridge. my girlfreind, who is also my wife understands that these old beat up hands are the most precious tools I own. I've made a lot of money over the past 30+ years with these ugly old paws. I have to make sure I clean them up real well before I go touching anything in the house: doors and doorknobs, lightswitches etc.

Q: what is the difference between Doctors and Mechanics?

A: mechanics wash their hands BEFORE they use the bathroom.
