getting a new phone, need opinions

It's also how some folks turn a $600 phone into a 5 cent 'brick'.

.
Actually, imo it's very easy to brick a phone. Just like a person installing firmware to their router. If something happens while the firmware is being installed, it will brick your router. Same for smart phones. While going through the process to root and/or put a custom rom on your phone, if something gets hung up or stalls, it can brick your phone. Also, trying to root on a low battery, a big no no. But a bricked phone can be reversed sometimes. Just depends on what has happened to it.
Anybody overclock their phone?

It's a software brick though. You get the stock ROM, reflash it and voila back to new. I meant permanent brick, as in totally useless.
I had my OG droid overclocked for a bit. Didn't really use it for anything I needed it to be OC'd for though, so I put it back.

Basically overclocking a phone means making the processor work faster than the manufacturer allows.
