I HAAAATE insurance companies
So I recently posted with pics about how my daughter trashed the Saturn Vue I sold her. It was totally the other kid's fault. Finally got a police report to verify it. Now comes the fun part. She has alstate and they are handling her fine, even her rage at the other. Seems the kid (19 who had two of his 19 yo friends in the back of a cherokee) had a cheapo insurance co. Well it has been pulling teeth to get any information out of them. Cant even get in touch with the kid (he's ducking calls). Now their adjuster said they may not honor the claim even though it was his fault. Since my name is still on the title, tonight we are calling the adjuster's supervisor and playing hard ball to get this claim settled. The alstate rep gave us some tips to use. I've had some issues with insurance in the past. I've been in a couple at-fault and not at fault accidents. But I've gotten them all resolved relatively quickly. This just irks me to no end. personally I view insurance as a business- and government-backed scam. You pay them your money but when it comes time to put in a claim they do anything to NOT pay out. Be it car, or home insurance. They are the same.
Your daughter's insurance company should be the one going after the other company, plain and simple. You need to change agents as you shouldn't be the one trying to get the other company to pay up. Go up the list on your agent to get him and/or the lawyers to do their job.

They are correct. If you have full coverage they can fix your car under unisured motorist if the other company doesn't pay (you pay the deductible) and then they go after the other insurance company to recover both. I had this happen before and recovered my deductible 6 months later. Another time we had this same case and my insurance still wound up taking the bulk of the loss and I took the loss of the deductible. I have State Farm. Guess they figured it was most cost effective for them to do it that way. Found out non-recoverable from them after 6 months.
If they don't have comprehensive collision coverage, then sorry to say they are SOL. I had a crash where the young girl pulled through 2 lanes of on coming traffic and then i Broadsided her. Both cars totaled, plenty of eye witnesses, cops and ems stated she was at fault. And because my cheap *** didn't get the comprehensive collision coverage I was basically told by statefarm( my insurance ) good luck and handed a list of contact numbers.
Just an update. Today she finally got word from the other insurance that they are going ahead with the liability and they sent her the paperwork to lay out the info on the hospital visit. And they will have their adjuster look at the car in a couple of days. I see this wrapped up in a week or two. Finally. A month and a half later. I'll finally get my blazer back.
Hot damn. Wonders never cease. They set her up in a rental today and I got my blazer back. Looks like she's going to be coming up roses on this one. They might even pay her for time off from work. This might be done next week.
So here it is the middle of March. You see my post in Jan when they admitted liability. Well This past monday she FINALLY got the payout. Of course it was two weeks after they stopped covering her rental. So AGAIN she's driving my blazer until she finds a suitable replacement. Problem being anything that's descent in the area goes FAST! Most what we find are dealers, cars that are too expensive, stuff that is costing much more than she's got to spend, or just plain junk. The few that are worth looking at are gone in a day or two!
