I'd say he was bent over & took it up the wazoo

I was beside myself when I ran across a zr2 that needed front end work, high km (250k) asking $1,500. It sold before I could go grab it, as it was out of town. Even ones that need work are at least $5+ around here.

I think he probably overpayed, but not to an unreasonable extent.
If it was an 03-05 with the same mileage and no problems it would be a damn good price. I see 03-05 ZR2's with that kind of mileage go for around 10K on Kijiji all the time. I could probably still list and sell my Blazer for around 10K which is more than I payed 3 years ago. They're holding pretty strong around that mark.
That said though, I wouldn't pay that for a truck that's going to need money put into it to make it fully functional. He should have had the seller take car of the issues first, then 9K might not be so bad.

Tell me again.. what's a Zr2 got that a 4dr doesnt?
Lol.. it's not that I cant relate. Back in the sixties, it was social death to be seen driving a 55-57 Chevy 4 dr sedan.
I giggle to myself when I lurk around some weekend cruise-in and see all my fellow geezers with those same cars - not even Bel-Airs- 327's with double hump heads, all bedecked with underhood chrome edelbrock manifolds and holley double pumpers.
Nostalgia? Not hardly...not even for a sleeper. Took a big-block for that... and not hardly worth it.
So I do get the ZR2 thang, but I still say; for 9 grand, that thing should'a been cherry and mechanically immaculate.

But yeah, ask your friend if he used lube before the "seller" plugged him LOL.

Yeah he overpaid big time. If it was 9k with the known problems fixed and a short term warranty of some kind then yes that would be a good deal. Not great.
The 2dr has its ups and downs. Personally I love having a 2dr. When I had a 4dr Explorer (POS) long ago all of my buddies used to want me to drive. That got real old with gas at the time being 2.50 (can't imagine being the taxi now at 3.61). So I got a 2dr and now they've all learned what a PITA it is for them being 6'4+ and trying to get in and out of the back. Lol. But that's just me. Now granted if I had a family I would definitely need the 4dr.
