So my brother just bought an 03 avalanche and tried to put a new hu in because the old one was locked out, and he didn't want to pay gm $300 to unlock it. He decided he didn't need the bypass module and just put the thing in. Now his truck won't start, we tried putting the module in and it was no help. We aren't sure if he tripped the passlock or some other security feature. So if anyone knows whats wrong or how to fix it any help would be appreciated.

 

$300.00 to unlock a radio??? As long as the radio played before lock out it should not take more than an hour if it has to sit in learn mode to unlock it. We used to get 1/2 hour charge to do the unlock.

 

Oh man someone didnt do any reading before messing in the dash of a new GM... You are supposed to buy a relocating harness ($100) that will allow you to move the factory HU to a new location - glove box or under seat. It stays hooked up and working... Then you install the new HU as a stand alone system, with leads to the battery direct... Time to tow it to an audio shop and pay them to fix it man... Ouch that sucks. Might wanna throw an ad on craigslist and maybe someone who works in that field can come do you a cash-job fix on it at your house, maybe pop by an audio shop and tell a tech what you did and offer him cash to do it after work and away from work?
