need help with my cobra digital DC325

I got the camera as a gift, ana tried installing the software onto my computer. The system requirementssay only up to XP, and Im running Vista. Im no computer whiz, but Im pretty sure Vista is built on XP platform. Everything got installed correctly, but when I try to access the pics on the camera, it says connection failed. I did NOT have the camera hooked up to the comp when installing the software. That is a nono. Im lost and need advice, or someone to tell me what to do. HELP ME
