Took my gf to go see Toy Story 3 last night. Good movie, however, if you haven't seen it yet then let me assure, if you miss the first 15 minutes you won't miss anything. Like most Pixar movies, there was a short cartoon at the beginning about these fat blobs. One blob represented day time, the other was night time. They start off not liking each other, then after seeing how the day has women at the beach, and the night has clubs and dancing, they hit it off. But then it turns into a lecture on how just because something is different is no reason to automatically hate it.
Is this a good lesson for little kids? Absolutely. And I am by no means a racist, let me make that perfectly clear. Heck, I was the only caucasian person in the theatre for the opening night of Barbershop. But don't give me a moral lesson with my freaking Toy Story 3. There was about 5 seconds of darkness after this particular short, and everyone was silent so I voiced my opinion: "gay", to which everyone errupted with laughter. Toy Story itself was a good film, coming from someone who grew up watching that, but this little short really put a sour taste in my mouth about Disney-Pixar.
Before casting judgement on if I'm in the wrong for feeling this way, let me make it clear what my deal is. Parents need to stop depending on Pixar to give their children lessons like this. If your child listens to Buzz Lightyear and Kung Fu Panda more than they listen to you, ya need to fix that! Next up: a short film about the birds and the bees will be shown for "Shrek 9: The Absolute Final Chapter, We're Seriously Serious This Time". I'm calling it now.

I totally agree. Real life issues being taught by cartoons? Come on! That irony amazes me. I have four kids and cannot imagine telling them "T.V. and movies are NOT real, but watch the cartoon at the beginning and you'll learn a good life lesson". It's a CARTOON - do they really think the kids are watching for the sake of learning anything?

I am on board with you guys. How can these kids be told it's only TV, so it's not real, then have this used as a life lesson? Hell, even I was taught my life lessons by my parents. It's amazing who the family lessons are taught by have changed in the past 18 years...

That really is funny in a sad kind of way. I grew up watching a cat and a mouse beat the living crap out of each other. Along with a coyote trying to massacre a bird. (for you young uns that's Tom and Jerry and the Roadrunner)
I don't really make a habit of killing things either. I guess my parents did a fairly good job.

To be honest... Kids these days are too soft... Parents have to treat them like they are little royalty, Now I have not had a child (my opinion might change), but I sternly believe that a nice lil whippin is in order for some children. I was a little [email protected] at one time, and my dad let me know and I think I turned out fine... But I agree with you... Parents don't do what they used to...
I like when people only do the bare minimum... Now, I just believe that we are getting softer as people come to age... Things are "easier"/"simpler" and lessons are not good enough. I bet that a few of you guys grew up and worked on cars with your father or in school.... Now, I really never got the chance and so I know bare minimums....
Idk... I just think as a society we are changing for the worst....
But enough of my soapbox.... Was the show worth the money? I mean, my fiancee wants to see it bad, but idk if I wanna pay 20 bucks... I loved the original, but idk since slinky dog died if it would be the same....

Glad I'm not the only one who is annoyed at this. But yes, Toy Story 3 itself was worth the money in my opinion. Go take a bathroom break during this part of the film and make her see it by herself haha. IDK, just for me that lame short at the beginning put a sour taste in my mouth. When TS3 comes out on DVD I will buy it, knowing that I will never have to watch that part again.

hmmm.....thanks for the heads-up Phil. was gonna take the family to see it this weekend.
don't feel sorry for the rant, you're absolutely right, parents need to step up & take responsibility for how their kids are behaving in society it's a free country, and it was a civil rant too.
***on a side note, i'm luvin' the new sig Matt***
