allright i know you've done it. you didn't have the time or you were out on the trails and you had to make something work. what crazy things have you done to make it home or just plain make things work when they don't want to. or a crazy invention to fix a problem.

fact: zip tie+duct tape can fix anything (well no it can't, but its a mans easy way out)

I found a lady that had broken a tie rod end on her front wheel drive car, she didnt have money for a tow truck, and only lived a few blocks from where it happened. I had duct tape in my truck, so I took off her front wheel and taped the crap out of the tierod to where it was supposed to go so she could drive it home and park it. It worked fine and even made the tight turn into her parking space with it. I wonder if she tried to drive it like that again?

I have used duct tape on my brothers truck. His window track broke and the glass fell down into the door, it was winter. I lifted the glass back up and taped it into the UP position so he could use the truck until we could fix it up in dads garage.

Ive also used duct tape to repair a split rad hose for someone on the side of the road, wrapped it up real good and put some water in the rad and they were on their way, it was holding pretty well if I do say myself.

 

A good heavy duty zip tie can be used as an alternate for a cv boot clamp. Saves you from buying the tool and the clamp which you usually have to buy the whole boot kit to get an individual one.

 

I've had a number of fixes over the years but the one I'm most proud of was when I was in the middle of nowhere in Kansas and somehow lost my radiator cap. This was on a '76 Camaro I used to have.

I'm on the side of the road, looking through the trunk, trying to find ANYTHING I could use as a temporary cap. Pulled my can of Copenhanen out of my back pocket and as I was putting a dip in...it hit me.

I had a bottle of gasket sealer and some wire solder. I put some sealer on the top of the radiator, put the lid to the Cope on top and wired it down tight with the solder. Held fantastic until I could get to a town that had an auto parts store.

Went inside to get a cap and they wanted to know what size. I told them it's for a '76 Camaro. Well, they couldn't pull up a part number (long before computers were common place) and wanted to take a look.

Let's just say, the look on the parts guy's face was priceless. To add insult to injury, he had to call over a couple of other guys by saying, "Hey, Joe! You've gotta come and see this!"

 

Mines not a big repair but def helped out then..i had a 97 cavalier Z24 that i had a aftermarket WAI in and it was a cheapo off eBay..well one day i notice my intake seems louder than it usually was, so i pulled off the highway and popped my hood and found the mount holding the intake had snapped off an as a result my air filter had come off..so i had driven about 12 miles w/ out an air filter..so i took some big zip ties and zip tied the mount back on to the intake tube and put the filter back on and it worked perfect. hell it held for another 2 months till i bought another intake for the car.
Another is when i had a cat-back with a fartcan on the 97 Z24..well the rubber hanger that the muffler hung on had come off and the muffler was dragging on the road..so i just did the ol cloths hanger trick and wired it back up into place until i got a replacement rubber hanger from a scraped cavalier like 2 wks after.

 

When I was driving my 96 F-150 it was like driving a rolling exhibition on jerry-rigging. My exhaust(well what was left) was held on by bailing wire, which after about 2 months came off which called for a sawzall right after the first converter(which bye the way had been hollowed out). Then I went out and bought those Silverstar light bulbs (when they had just come out) and they burnt a hole in my headlight bucket.
