So we do this on another forum and it actually helps to give me ideas for things to cook and I find it interesting to see what others are cooking so if you feel like playing post up some pics of what your cooking!!

I found a recipe on pirate in their cooking forum (you have to be a paid member to view it) that has 41 pages so far of people raving about this potato soup recipe so I finally decided it was time to make it happen in my house!

Well here we go!! Any recipe that starts with crisping 2lbs of bacon has to be good right!?!?

Attachment 30669
I even have help!
Attachment 30670
Seems like things are happening properly with the bacony goodness in the bottom of the pot to be cooked into the soup...

More help

Attachment 30673
It already smells amazing
Attachment 30674

Attachment 30675
Next time I'm doing 3lbs of bacon so I have an extra pound to munch on while I'm waiting because this is amazing!
Attachment 30676
And now a beer while I let this cook for the next two hours!

not my picture but the wife has been making these

http://ohsnapletseat.com/wp-content/.../01/7QzsUl.jpg

you basically take thick sliced lunchmeat into a muffin tin and put a egg in it. i been eating these for breakfest and lunch for the past 2 weeks... though i am starting to get a little sick of them. they kinda just taste like a egg mcmuffin.

I found a recipe for carnitas today and it looked really good so I decided to go ahead and give it a try! I started with a 9lb pork shoulder and after trimming the skin off and removing the bone after cooking I should net somewhere around 7lbs of delicious meat! Here is what I started with.
Attachment 30663
The recipe calls for cooking the meat in a slow cooker but I don't have time for that so in here it went!
Attachment 30664
I didn't get a pic before I put the lid on but I'll for sure get some when its all finished!

These turned out fantastic! After cooking in the InstantPot for an hour and then it sit for another hour to release the pressure they meat just fell apart. I pulled it all apart and tossed it under the broiler for a few minutes then turned all the meat over and broiled it again so I would have some nice crispy pieces in there as well and man was it good. I was a bit concerned at first when I tried a piece still in the pot that it was going to be way to spicy for the wife but it ended up just about perfect for her so thats a win!
Attachment 30661
And ready to eat!
Attachment 30662
I also made some cilantro lime rice as a side but no pics of that.

abig84 02-02-2017 12:21 PM

those are some fancy tacos. im so glad my wife loves cooking as i never have the patience to make anything nice. but im always willing to eat it

rexmburns 02-02-2017 02:08 PM

Thanks! I actually really enjoy cooking the part that I dislike is that our kitchen is very small right now so I don't have a lot of room for prep but on the other hand it forces me to clean up frequently! We are looking at houses again so hopefully we will be moving soon and after the garage a really nice kitchen is next on my list of wants lol!

Looks perfect! My BBQ sauce is mixing sweet baby ray's and open pit. It's quick and adjustable.

For me getting an elk is something I cannot count on. Deer are more consistent for me. Then again I've gotten skunked some years and am thankful the the extra I got the year before to get me through the bad year. :-)

This year my elk hunting will be with a muzzle-loader. A bit more difficult to get close enough because of our Idaho regs that restrict the use of optical scopes on such guns. I don't mind as that regulation is true to the ML being a shorter range weapon. Besides, my ML, a side-lock, percussion cap .50 cal Kentucky rifle, is hell of a lot of fun to shoot! :)

Rusty Nuts 08-13-2018 03:48 PM

Good job on scoring some "fast food".

This one was not very fast as it did not know I was less than 200 yards away for about 5-10 minutes. Then when I shot it, it took three steps from where I could have driven to it and dropped down a 60' embankment. LOL

DonL 03-28-2019 04:42 PM

You will not die on me thread!

What ever happened to rex and his Jetta?

He's still here lurking in the background!!

Sorry we built a house last summer so I got really busy with everything involved with that and trying to get settled in. I've actually just started back with my stereo install in the jetta so I'll have to update my thread I guess.

Keeping with the thread here's a couple things I've made lately
I built a Santa Maria style grill with a rotisserie for a little Webber grill I had sitting in a box unused

And then I cooked chickens!

Cooking at 0°C, not too bad, but considering it was +7°C was the average of last week, and he had half a foot of snow fall yesterday. Yay canada! Roasted red pepper and olive oil seasoned potatoes on the left, and garlic butter carrots on the left.

What a lovely thread :D Steaks are super cool!
It's not gonna be much about what I am cooking tonight, nor about the dinner. But a bit on my country.
In our polish tradition, a bread loaf is a common base of the morning breakfast, that consist mostly of sandwiches. And a tea of course. In contrary to US, where the kings of a morning meals are eggs & bacon and a toasts or cereals with milk. To be truth, the toast bread isn't even close to the real bread loaf. I am picky in this subject, and upset with the nowadays price and quality I've decided to bake the bread on my own. And I've been doing that for months. No additives, just flour, water and salt. No yeast, that make Your bread crumble. It has a great texture and is really filling (like two buns on a breakfast and You're full). It stays fresh much longer.
One day I've split the bread dough to a bun size breads and here's what I got:
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/blazerf...36259f6e3b.jpg

If anybody would like to take the challenge, I can tell You on how to grow Your own sourdough and start a home baking :) It isn't a time consuming task, but require attending the bread dough in a certain time interval.

DonL 04-03-2019 04:45 PM

I love fresh bread. The texture and taste beats the bagged bread anyday. I haven't made my own yet, but have picked some up at a bakery. Worth every penny! I never knew about the sandwiches for breakfast, but I would rather that then eggs... bacon on the other hand, I'll croak before I give that up lol

DonL 05-25-2019 06:13 PM

Here's my lunch I had today, and tonight is whistle dogs lol...
