Default putting a 4l80e where it doesnt belong...

Question about my 1987 GMC K2500 Suburban. I think this is the right place for this - sorry if not.

My subby has a 400SBC with TBI. It's basically the stock TBI setup off the 350 that came out of it.

it has a TH400 trans. I want to put in a 4L80E instead. The TH400 is wore out and needs replaced anyway.

My idea is that if i can find a donor with 4L80E and TBI, I just take the trans, wiring harness and ECM and basically plug it all in in my '87. the 4l80e won't exactly fit, it'll probably need the crossmember moved, maybe new driveshafts, yadda yadda yadda. that's not a problem. just wanna know the electronic end of it.

thanks.

I dont think ANY tbi setups came with the 4l80. they were usually on larger duallys and vans. you might be referring to the 4l60e. they are on gen 2 blazers,1500's etc.

The 4l80e was introduced in 1991. You could find them in 2500 and 3500 trucks.

the non electric 4L60E was the 700R4. the 4L80E was basically an overdrive TH400 in the was that 700R4/4L60E is an overdrive TH350.

I know it would have to be a 3/4 or 1 ton (2500/3500 series) truck to be the donor.

I just want to know is there any reason the thing wouldn't work if you put it, it's wiring harness, and the ecm all from the donor truck into my truck?

they make shift controllers for electric trans you can buy them at jegs or summit if the ecm deal wouldnt work or maybe you could research which pins to wire to work the tranny painless wiring might a have a harness to run the tranny without all the other stuff
