Default seal puller?

So I'm currently in the process of rebuilding a 1978 honda cb550k motorcycle engine. My problem is the seal on the stator leaks really really bad. I bought a seal puller that is a hook and pry style, and all this is doing is ripping apart the seal. Is there another style out there that would work better? my only alternative is to split the crank case, which involves disassembling the whole transmission. The trans is completely fine (it ain't broke so I don't want to mess with it). So are there any helpful tips I'm missing? or am I stuck with the POS tool I got.
