most people think the dealership is overpriced in doing almost everything which is true most of the time and people also think that they are after money just replacing expensive things that don't neccisarily need to be replaced. I think in all situations however when there is a major problem with your car or truck you should always get a second or third opinion. Its just like going to the doctor and the doctor telling you that you need open heart surjery of corse you don't just rush and get heart surjery you go and get a second opinion from another doctor and they might say you only need to take some medication or have a minor surjery. I wouldn't bash the dealerships thou just because they diagnosed your car wrong they probably do know more about the make the are specialized in than just any old garage. My mom and dad have faithfully been taking their cars to their dealerships for tune-ups oil changes and basic stuff and their cars have been running just great.

There are good dealerships, and bad dealerships. Unfortionatly, with people penny pinching dealers on new car sales, service has to be comething of a cash cow.

Around here, the dealerships hire all the kids straight out of trade school. They also have the highest hourly rates around. I only go there for service bulletins and parts I can't get elsewhere.

<ON RANT>
I am going to get yelled at for this..but it all comes down to paying someone 30-40-50-60 dollars an hour to put a few bolts on a door...or sweep the floor...THAT is why the vehicles are expensive to begin with...it's crazy..when you pay people that much money with plush benefits...you have to jack the price up so high it's astronomic...so now you have someone making vehicles that makes 40 bucks an hour...and someone making 12-20 bucks an hour wanting to buy a vehicle...I looked at new truck prices the other day....GM, Toyota, Nissan, Dodge and Ford...CAN KEEP THEIR TRUCKS! I wouldn't buy one for that price...PERIOD, I would just as soon ride a scooter! It's not because I don't have the money for a payment either...I just refuse to pay that much money for a LOOSING INVESTMENT....you pay 40,000 bucks for a truck that isn't worth that much when you jump in and get 10 miles down the road...just a STUPID investment.
<OFF RANT/>

HERE is what doesn't make sense to me...first the symptoms of the vehicle didn't follow GM'S OWN CHART for a torque converter...it was obviously a problem after the vehicle went into open loop. I have a meeting with the service manager tomorrow...I just want to sit down and have a chat about the whole thing to see what he has to say.

Lastly...GM isn't very smart when it comes to parts...if I price out a part at Autozone or Advanced Auto...and I see a Delphi, AC Delco or dealership part that is 30 bucks or so more...maybe more depending on the price...I WILL BUY THE GM PART! However, when it is OBVIOUS they are trying to bend me over...I either by the non GM part or find it online from a GM OEM dealer that sells the stuff for a more reasonable price. IF GM would structure their pricing slightly above the non-GM parts...stuff would fly off the shelves! I WANT the GM part..but if your going to screw me..at LEAST give me a free jar of lube with it! I had an airbag computer go out on the Jimmy...seems like the dealership wanted 400-500 bucks for it....29 bucks with shipping online...FIXED!

However, don't get me wrong...I love my Jimmy...and it ain't going anywhere!

They don't call 'em "stealerships" for nothing. Around here, just about all of them are run by crooks. That's why I never buy parts from them unless I'm desperately pressed for time and must have an AC Delco. Otherwise, I buy my genuine GM parts online.
