Witnessed an insane police chase today!
I have no idea what this thing is. But me and my gf were going to the grocery store and we see a cop car turn the corner uphead and turn the lights on. Then I see this odd bird in front of the 5-0. Best random animal moment ever.

Thats a EMU, and Ostrich would be a little bigger. I would have stuck around to watch it dropkick the cop that was about to try and catch it. Emus can kick very very hard. To catch it you have to put a sock inside out over your hand, and grab its beak, then your other hand rolls the sock down over its head and you are done. Once it cant see anymore it will just stand there like a stupid bird and they can get it into a truck easy enough to return to its home.
Emus are very fast and can jump over stuff thats 10 feet high. They are also the second largest flightless bird, the largest being the Ostrich. Im guessing its escaped from your local zoo or an Emu farmer and is on a joyride around his neighborhood. Its not very far from its home either way. Emus are like chickens, they wont stray very far from where they are used to getting their meals, thats why you dont have to fence in chickens.
Cool sighting. I love birds. There is Emu farms around where I live. The eggs they lay are the size of softballs or bigger from mature females, and the eggs are delicious.
