Cutting coils
I just bought 2 inch drop coils for my 2000 Chevy blazer ls. I want just a tiny bit more than 2 inches so im wondering if I can just cut 1/4 of a coil? is the safe? and will it still mount ok? thank you.
look into if you should cut top or bottom. i know that some say go for it some say no. i have been looking into this for my mustang and from what i found...yes you can do it. it seems like hot rodders have been doing this for years.
but dont use a torch or anything like that with alot of heat. you can use a cut off wheel or if you feel manly a hacksaw (
)
like anything you cut...start small. i found that on mustangs if you cut off one coil you drop 1 -1 1/2" inches. so i am going to cut off 1/4 coil at a time till i get where i want to be.

Haha yeah no way I have a cut off wheel for that!! as for which side, I read that it doesnt really matter because the spring is the same on both ends. But I think Im going to cut the top just because of how you need to index it with the drain holes on the bottom.
Definitely start small! With cutting coils, a little goes a long way. Also, some springs are progressive, so cutting the wrong end can really mess the ride up. While it's not the best way to lower a car, people have been doing it for decades, and if done right shouldn't screw anything up too bad.
When you cut the coil you need to cut one whole coil at a time. And definetly use a cutting wheel lol. I did it on my 63 fairlane, 1 coil gave me about 2 inches of drop. It does ride a lot harder now but looks badass.
Well guys, I think I am THE BIGGEST IDIOT on the forum right now. I made small cuts with a grinder just to mark where I want to cut when I get my Cut off wheel back from my dad. well, stupid me made one cut at the the bottom of one spring, and on at the top of the other.. Is there anything I can do for this? Thanks alot!
im not sure I think the tops are different.
Edit: the kits are pretty cheap.
