13 Years Later
I live in Kansas City, MO. I've posted twice on this forum, once recently, when I've needed help from people who know far more than I do. I've been a member for about a year. I have a "Victory Red." '98, 4d, 4wd, LS Blazer with 104,000 miles. I bought it in Jan. '99 from a local dealer for $21,500. It had 6,700 miles then. The only previous owner was National Car Rental in St. Paul, MN. The truck came with a factory block heater...a nice surprise. I've been wholly satisfied with it. It has never broken down or stranded me. I've been thorough about maintenance. It averages 17-18 mpg in the city, 21-22 on the hwy. The best mileage it ever got was driving east across Kansas on a hot summer day - 28 mpg. I've had to replace some expected things -- water pump, alternator, one caliper braket, pinion seal, seat recliner lever (of course!), brake light switch, spark plugs & wires, etc. But after 13 years and 104K miles, the truck still has the factory brakes, hoses, and exhaust system. I bought it after renting various SUVs for road trips. I liked the Blazers and Bravadas best. I once had a rented Blazer near Grand Marais, MN in January. One morning the temp was -25F and that truck started immediately. I thought that impressive. So, based on good experiences, I bought one of my own even though Consumer Reports practically put a skull & crossbones next to the name Blazer in their magazine/website. I've gotten good service and my money's worth out of mine. It's going to take me into the CO mountains for two weeks at the end of this month. I'm happy to have this forum for times when I do need help. Thanks to those who provide and maintain it.
