Default 2001 Blazer with 185,000 miles worth 1500?

Hi all, I'm new here and trying to find out if a 2001 Blazer with a high 185,000 miles on it is worth 1500? Or is it just a headache I'm buying? I thought this might be a good place to ask. Owner says all good, no CEL, little rust, but that high miles worries me. I just need something I can take the kids in to the Adirondacks and it's gonna be safe and get us all back home again! I had a Subaru Forester and the head gasket went to the tune of $4000 in repairs which I'm not doing!! Hoping for better results this time. Thanks for anything you can advise me!!

***Took your advice and started new thread, thanks for input. Guy says the gas cap is loose so CEL on. :-( Maybe will take less..? Says he drives it all the time... ***

Probably should start a new thread and ask your question there.

I paid $5100 for my pristine body/interior 65K mile 2001 and ended up putting another $3000 into it to fix the engine but I didn't do my homework when buying. Any used cartruck can be great or they can be a big headache that someone has traded in or simply wants to get rid of. Your job is to figure out which before buying. In addition to the normal vehicle checks during driving, I would run a scan for codes on any vehicle that I was potentialy buying and reject it if there are any codes stored, current or past. My huge mistake was not recognizing that the SES light had been disconnected on mine before the PO traded for a new car. Of course, with a 4WD, make sure the transfer case shifts between all the conditions.

I'd spend the $100 and get an inspection. I was going to give my nieces $1,500 for a "clean" 2002 LS rwd with 86k miles. I had an inspection and discovered tons of issues including lots of oil leaks and broken motor mounts. The cost of repairing the leaks and motor mounts was $2k.

$100 is a lot of money, but it could save you a lot down the road, give you ammunition for lowering the price, or show you that you're getting a great vehicle.

I just bought a 2000 Chevy blazer 4x4 with 175xxx on it. It runs great, the guy I bought it from told me everything he's done to it. Do your homework and have it inspected if you like. I didn't have mine inspected, but I trusted the person I bought it from. Blazers will run a long time if you take care of them. I'm on my second blazer and have been happy with both of them.

I inherited mine 3 years ago with a little over 65k miles on it. For me it was free, but I've put about $2400 into it. The intake gasket was the biggest chunk of that, along with the rear pinion seal, 2 smog pumps, a/c compressor clutch. If I was you, I would have it inspected. I did that with mine, and they found all of that stuff no problem. It was $85 to have it done. If it's 4x4, and in decent condition, I don't think $1500 is that bad. The mileage would worry me a little though.
