Default Fuel Tank

Anybody have an idea as to why my 2000 Blazer would have a fuel tank off of a 98 model? I'm just curious I had to order a new one and it took me forever to figure out that I didn't have a 2000 model tank on it

Is it possible it was replaced by a previous owner?

I don't think so for the simple reason that the 2000 model gas tank that I've seen on website is actually a bit smaller lengthwise then the one that I've got on my blazer now
