Evening All,
New to forum, not new to Chevy, have 56 Chevy 2 door since 83 and to square nose 4x4 94 Ford Bronco since 97.
A potential project is approaching my decision to accept it. It is a military K5 Blazer mid 80s, 6.2 diesel turbo 400. Vehicle was daily driven in Ca until motor damage, parked, towed to Louisiana where it resides. Over next week expect to evaluate its condition.
my assumptions going in are
the 6.2 has reliability issues, crank and harmonic balancer, and not a good candidate to rebuild
the 400 should be as reliable as needed with no need for overdrive like 700r4
the A/C is mounted on the cab, and unless decision is to remain military stock, is removed
expect Military will have difference in electrical fuses wiring and replacing wiring harness is to be expected
body appears straight and rust free, the condition of floor and finders unknown
axles are 3/4 or 1 ton with drum brakes and manual locking hubs
interior is basic, don’t recall if rear seat
title isn’t an issue, once it can be located or replaced
Trying to be practical about this, as I tend to think every vehicle in the junk yard can be reborn. If body and axles are in reasonable condition, appreciate Blazer Forum input as I go. Will post pictures start build thread in future.
