Newbie with a new toy
Hi all,
New guy here. I just bought a '94 S-10 Blazer at auction the other day. She's in pretty good shape with some rust bubbling under the paint here and there. Has the 4.3L Vortec (VIN-W). 151,000 miles. It has a 4L60E transmission with a classic blown overdrive unit. It starts in 1st and won't shift untill you let your foot out of it and then will jump straight into 3rd. I've had a couple vehicles like this in the past so it doesn't bother me right now. I'll get the tranny rebuilt eventually. There's a few other questions I have but I'll put them in the tech section.
Thanks,
Tony

for the 4wd check the vaccum lines its very common on the blazers for a bad/disconnected vac line can cause ur 4wd to not work. also could be the vac actuator underneth the battery or the transfercase. welcome to the forum btw!!
i also have a rusty 94 and am workin on fixin it. i've got new fenders and wheel wells just need to install them

From another new member, welcome! Sounds like that tranny's toast. I just brought my Blazer home today. My fears were put to rest about the 4L60E by this forum, or I wouldn't have bought it. I use to own a '95 Formula 'bird with a 4L60E that self destructed due to poor servicing. That soaked my wallet good having it rebuilt. Good luck with yours!

Yeah I've had another 4L60E and an older 700R4 that did the same thing. Apparently the O/D unit runs while in 2nd gear too, so when it goes crap you loose 2nd as well as 4th. I drove my '86 Chevy like that for 30,000 miles before I sold it. I definitely don't need any reassurance that the 4L60E is a great tranny. I've seen quite a few of them last 200,000 miles or more.
Eventually I'll either get this one rebuilt or swap in a low mileage junkyard spare. Right now I'm going to focus on getting the 4x4 working and some of the other little BS that needs to be done.
