a little about myself
my name is dustin tackett and until i moved from ohio to florida i never really cared for offroading, but when i get to florida and saw people in the swamps and got my first taste of offroad i have cared for nothing but. when i moved to arkansas, i bought a 97 ford ranger 2wd and turned it into a hunting truck, somehow with about 400 pounds in the bed of the truck i managed to get though mud to my windows where other 4x4s wouldnt even think to go. then i got a 85 c10 with a 454 in it my stepdad did a 4x4 conversion on it sense it was also 2wd and we put 33in tires on it, we cold get though almost anything in that truck and thats where most of my expierence came from, here lately i havent had any kind of vehicle just been taking my buddy out, at first he had a 94 jeep with a broken transfer case that we decided to destroy even further, now he has an 09 ranger fx4 that we take out quite often. we just returned from mudstock in oklahoma where we put many fullsize trucks runnin 35'' tires and bigger to shame. his truck is all stock except for 31in maxxis buckshot mudding tires and a magnaflow exhaust.
now i am lookin to get a 87 k5 and am wondering a few things about it.
first, what would it take to do a 454 conversion to it? what would the price look like, also do any of you know where to find a good strong but affordable 4 inch lift for it. i am lookin at a set of 33 inch groundhawg tires for it (if i buy it) but i dont want to pick them up until i have a bit of a lift on it. if any one knows where to get cheap parts for this blazer i would be grateful. and also if anyone knows what i should look for while test driving this blazer, i am very limited when it comes to being a mechanic, but hope to change that with this k5. i know some but not near enough.
thank you all for your time and i hope to upload some pics and vids soon.
btw this is the video i made for mudstock 09 at sparks america in oklahoma. the litte blue ford ranger is my boys.
