Ok, I have removed the middle section of the turbo but the main shaft is still in there connected to the exhaust turbine, how is that removed?

I've only ever messed with larger turbos found on semis and tractors... On those, the whole center section comes apart as one piece with both turbines attached.

The best thing to do is to take it to a shop that specializes in turbos. They will rebuild it and balance the wheels. If its not put back together exactly as it came apart it will vibrate and kill the seals. I have owned several turbo vehicles and found out that you can't really rebuild them.

Ok, I would still like to clean it and remove the rust and this is the only part that I can't get out. The exhaust turbine seems to be held in place by the shaft but I can't see anything holding it to the housing.

And how much did the rebuild cost you?

The thing to look for on the turbo is the impeller wheel. They get worn from the dirt that comes into the engine. The more wear on it the harder the unit has to work to make the same pressure. Also there is a carbon seal in there that has to be handled gently or it will leak oil everywhere. Also check for play in the bearings, a minimal amount is ok but anything over about 1/32 of an inch should be rebuilt. On my Conquest we had the 12A turbos. A decent rebuild would cost about $250 and up. That included new bearings, seals and balancing the wheels. On the smaller turbos the impeller wheel spins at over 100,000 rpm. So its vital that it's in balance.

Ok, the impeller wheel's are perfect condition.

The problem I'm having now is that I still can't seem to get the Exhaust impeller out of the housing.

It seems to be attached to the shaft but there is nothing that I can see holding it in place. I have tried just about everything that I can to remove ti but it seems to be held in by something.

Any help would be appreciated, I will post photos tomorrow.

Ok, got it apart and started painting. I'm gonna order a rebuild kit and rebuild it. Should i get the turbo balanced before or after I put everything back together?
