What to call this thread? "yummy"?!, "oh-sofaking-good"!?

So today I put down some money on blazer upgrades - AGAIN. I have a bit coming to me (or already here) in the way of a grille guard, PIAA 520i fogs, the Bully hitch mount back-up lights & another lil thingy I saw today
http://www.wynjammer.com/ALM1115/GM_S10_4_3__V6.html
http://www.wynjammer.com/ALM1115/GM_...manceMods.html
http://www.wynjammer.com/ALM1115/Customer_Feedback.html

YUM!!! After the PCM is installed, the marine intake with a higher flow TBI, Bosch 36lb injectors, Wynjammer supercharger with a rebuilt impeller assy., it should have NO ISSUES pulling the bassboat out to the lake & passing 'sunday drivers' that like to go 10mph under the speed limit.

The Wynjammer on a stock 4.3L should add at least 60hp. With the free flowing exhaust, 8mm Taylor wires I have already 60hp is fair to say the least. Now with the higher end/flowing marine intake manifold with the larger TBI & Bosch injectors I was told that alone, without the Wynjammer, should be good for 70hp (ala Al @ Wynjammer). Couple the Wynjammer with the intake etc & their individual hp's would be a 'safe' 130hp or so increase. But the Wynjammer pushing through the aftermarket intake ... omg, my blazer is in need of a trans. shift kit for sure!
It'll be seeing the MSD Blaster coil & JBA ceramic shorty headers in the near future as well.
Then depending on what suspension lift I get that'll influence what gearing I'll get <sigh, what a wicked web these vehicles weave>, 3:42 now & I'm thinking 4:11 would be a good compromise between DD & highway hauler without sacrificing performance or economy on either side.

swartlkk 10-24-2010 05:44 PM

The wynjammer kit is a well put together kit. I thought they were done though...

A marine intake won't add power in and of itself. Flow path wise, it is VERY similar to the stock intake. The use of the marine intake is so you can use bosch style injectors which gives you options for increasing lb/hr rates. So I wouldn't expect 70HP just by swapping those parts in (speaking of the intake, injectors, & throttle body).

I would seriously consider a cam if you are going through all of the work of installing a CSC kit. With a different cam, 70HP w/o the CSC could be realized. Of course you would want to make sure to decrease restriction on the exhaust side as well to make everything work to the best of its ability.

Rottidog 10-24-2010 05:53 PM

Heya Kyle hows things & the Ranier I've been reading about? Wynjammer is alive & well. The mechanic I got the s/c & intake from talks to Al at wynjammer a lot (phone, emails) & has been down to see him. As for the intake he said because of the flow paths, injectors (that are installed), larger TB it should be good for 60 or so hp, couple that with the s/c & wow. Also the intake has access to the fuel rails & injectors plus a few options for temp. sensors & vacuum attachments. Overall MUCH easier/user friendly to work on. As for a cam, yeah I was thinking of a 'towing' cam for lower end torque, but with all I'm adding to it & the headers soon, it should be ok with the exception of valve over lash possibilities. Time will tell though.

<edit> re-read what Kyle said - always appreciative of what you have to say, I sounded a lil 'stand-offish' & that isn't my intent! Guess I'm just a little excited & I'm trying to stay grounded on how this will perfom. All in all if it gets up around 300hp & it's easier to work on with more options & user friendlyness - then I'll be happy.

DKSDAD 10-24-2010 09:47 PM

Sounds awsome, good luck with the upgrades. Can't wait to see the final product.

Rottidog 10-24-2010 10:01 PM

yeah I'm stoked like a kid on xmas eve lol! thnx
I'd like to get some vids of when I pull it out of the shop, how it sounds, hops etc. I feel jittery because I could & might be looking at 33% more power round abouts lol. Blazer is around 220hp now with what I have in it, with all this & headers (afterwards) I could be looking at over 120hp increase... that makes me anxious, not only to haul the boat around but thats a sweet, semi tricked blazer with some gonads!

these may be apropos: http://www.trucknutz.com/ <--- the truck has ballz

Rottidog 10-24-2010 10:34 PM

lol, thanks sturg
I have 2 PCM's from the guy (21 year mechanic) I got all this from, niether fit my blazer & at least 1 has been pcmforless'd & has a sticker, so I'm hoping for bartering leverage.

I'm going to have issues sleeping tonight even though it may be friday at the earliest (I'm hoping) or early next week all this is installed & running. But whoa, 33% more seat of the pants butt dyno, take a friend thats been in there before, for a ride thats "WTF did you do to this thing?", make the big silly grin smiles kind of power. 300+ hp may not be all that when I see all the HD chevy , dodge commercials etc... but for what I/we have, this better prove to be significant & make people wonder "wtf a blazer with a boat just passed us?!"

But it's my DD & I haven't mashed the throttle more than 3 times in 2 years, I still wont, but thats not saying it's not going to be tempting!

Rottidog 10-25-2010 07:43 PM

So I picked up the rest of the SC today, took it & the manifold to the shop I'll get to install it all. He said it shouldn't be too bad (the manifold) & the SC is a cake walk (2 hr's for anyone with basic mechanical skills so says the manual). I also emailed a company in town that does PCM tuning & they have a dyno & can dyno tune the blazer after everything is installed... have to see what that would cost. lol

So it's moving forward & perhaps if all goes well by this weekend it'll have around 300hp!

streblo 10-25-2010 08:51 PM

definitally going to have to see it when your done

Rottidog 10-25-2010 09:09 PM

oh &%[email protected] <--- insert 4 letter word there!
I'm stoked, 33% more hp = don't need the ex gf lol... it should be a good ride when it's done & yes, we'll get together & compare rides for sure
mine will be the one with the transmission on the ground if I don't get the shift kit soon enough lmao

Rottidog 11-03-2010 07:43 PM

Have some issues with the injectors on the intake that should be taken care of soon but the sc went in today by itself with the MSD Blaster coil & it got dyno tuned. The stock injectors leaned out (because of the 6 psi of added boost from the sc) around 4600 rpm or so & it hurt the HP & torque gains. That being said the RWHP got to 180.1 @ 4619 rpm & torque at the rear wheels was 224.3 ft/[email protected] 3475 - 3566 rpm. Not too shabby but I was hoping for more & when we get the intake figured out it'll really help the numbers.

As a comparison the hp at the crank was 227.8 @ 4619 rpm & torque was 282.5 @ 3475 - lots of loss through the powertrain.

Driving it is a LOT different, the supercharger whine is going to take some getting used to but I'm thinking I'll grow to appreciate it. Power wise it takes a lot less peddle to get up to speed & using the same driving style as before (how much you normally get into the gas to get up to speed) = leaving people at the lights. Stepping on it 1/2 - 3/4 (not floored) around 2500 rpm is a hoot!! It GOES!!! Then the supercharger spins up more & it really growls & goes. Sounds a lot more like just pure power with that whine & the exhaust has a different tone now too.

I was sitting in the lobby of the shop while my service rep was on the phone & I heard a vehicle on the dyno... I thought wholy crap that sounds mean!!! Turns out it was my blazer lol. Talk about anxious to get back there & see it.

When I convert the video of it I'll post it on youtube & post the link if anyone wants to see & hear it. It's howling a lot but it isn't that loud on the road with the hood closed.

mov4x4 11-03-2010 09:00 PM

I want to see the vids!!!!

Sturg 11-03-2010 09:11 PM

vids pronto! lol.

Rottidog 11-03-2010 09:25 PM

Here's the vid I got of it... FF to around 50 seconds
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bl0YwGxOJms

The sound is annoying in the video but like I said earlier, it's not as bad on the road with the hood down. Too bad we can't hear the exhaust OMFG!! I'm going to check & make sure everything is OK with the previous owner of it. He said Wynjammer had a bad batch of bearings come in & they didn't find out until the customers called/wrote in & they promptly rebuilt the superchargers.

cbr995 11-03-2010 09:46 PM

I've heard great things about Wynjammer.
I also heard the guy behind them (Al) is super helpful, and really stands behind his product. But he'll talk your ear off!

Sounds great, man. I like the way the Wynjammer sounds, even if it sounds like a bad power steering pump.

Rottidog 11-03-2010 10:10 PM

lol CBR it does sound odd & I think I'll actually look forward to it/enjoy that sound - like a turbo diesel truck sound without the diesel. But I still want to be sure everything is in order. That sound is new to me & just doesn't sound right, imo.

Like you said, a bad pump... or bearing, but holy hell does it move now lol.

The guy I got the Wynjammer from has been there, met Al & they are still in touch with emails & calls, both hard core performance freaks. He's the one from Winnipeg that left a shining review on Al's website. So I'll be bringing the blazer to him & seeing what he says about the sound - is it right or wrong.

As for talking my ear off... hell, I'd love to shoot the chit with someone like that for awhile!
Imagine the info from a person thats 'been there, done that, tried tested & true?'

cbr995 11-03-2010 10:15 PM

Oh, yeah. He'd be a hoot to talk too.

Hey, you done any speed tests yet?

Rottidog 11-03-2010 10:24 PM

speed tests AKA Radar Traps? NO... hopefully not lol but the seat of the pants dyno tells me I have to change the way I drive (foot into the gas sorta thing) lol

I've noticed a few people in Chevy & Dodge p/u's roll down their windows wondering wtf that sound is with a blazer sitting beside them & a car or 2.
When the intake issues get figured out Rotti, will be a happy camper err boat hauler, pull you out of the snowbank, ditch kinda guy.

Then comes the front ARB or other E-locker for the front diff. & possibly 4:11 gears, in both of course.

Still tossing around the idea of a 6" superlift. I need or want, no I need a few more inches so the front tires don't hit the fenders or frame OR Diversified Creations 6" solid axle swap. omfg the money lol

Rottidog 11-03-2010 10:53 PM

P.S. I can't wait to go to work in the morning! All the people that shouldn't be on the road, drive before they've had 3 hrs of AWAKE time or even have a licence for that matter (we all see them) lol. Too easy to cause BS, I'll have to mind my manners.

Rottidog 11-04-2010 07:18 PM

update

Talked to the previous owner of the Wynjammer today, he said & I quote " that's the sound that puts a smile on your face, sounds perfect." lol whew ok cool

Trying to find the pigtails for the Bosch injectors is turning out to be akin to a 'female dog in heat' google that & you'll see.

When I get those I'm taking it to a friend of mine for the intake install & both boots came off the CV joints (outers) & I need an upper ball joint replaced. Then the engine will get the fuel needed & not lean out at 4600 rpm.

Still not easy to keep out of the peddle, it goes & builds & BUILDS & GOES more almost effortlessly... so cool. I can't wait to get the intake done so it can eat better - breathing is force fed now.

Sturg 11-04-2010 08:27 PM

i nominated you for ROTM

Thats freaking awsome man, 1st time anyone has done that & ty!
But everyone has the feeling their Blazer is best. It's how you see & know your vehicle.
I feel mine can kick ass all over town & then I heard there was snow coming... I said good! I want 2 feet of it because it's fun lol.
I've been pulling people out, hauling a vehicle from a bank, snow drift, bad place to be & go out in inclement weather just because. To some I may be showing off but the people I pull out do not give a rats ass about that, they got their vehicle out & are the way home.
& I get to have fun... It's all about 4wd baby & it's oodles of fun!

No problem and I know exactly what you're talking about, It's supposed to snow a little tomorrow. I'm like I want 2 feet! I love going out and hunting RICE to pull out of ditches hahaha.

Rottidog 11-04-2010 10:15 PM

It's all good! & it's not just the blazer, it's how you drive/handle it that makes the biggest difference. Even a 2wd can be awsome - in the right frame of mind/hands.

Yupp I drove my 2wd suburban in the snow with very little issues... and are you ever gonna take the Blazer to the track just for ****s and giggles?

Rottidog 11-05-2010 09:35 AM

Lol no, it would look really dumb, a lifted blazer with mud tires going down the 1320.
When I get the intake done & they re-tune the PCM on the dyno they can do a pseudo 1/4 mile run on it.

Benedict1337 11-05-2010 11:41 AM

lol I'd like to take my truck to the track just for fun. lol everyone would wonder what you got under the hood :icon_wink:

Rottidog 11-05-2010 12:22 PM

They'd hear the whining of the supercharger but before that they'd wonder "WTF is THAT doing here?!"

Benedict1337 11-05-2010 12:39 PM

man I wish I was getting a supercharger... so how much is this costing you all together?

Rottidog 11-05-2010 02:12 PM

The supercharger was rebuilt by Al at Wynjammer because of a bad batch of bearings they got, so it's basically like new. The supercharger & the marine intake with the Bosch injectors was $2000 cash. Dyno tuning it was $375.

Benedict1337 11-05-2010 04:18 PM

wow thats not bad at all. I'm sure there will be more than noticeable gains with that.

I've been wanting to ask you too, do you ever plan on making custom brackets for your bumpers to match the body lift? I'd like to get a 3" body lift if I could make some bumper brackets...

Rottidog 11-05-2010 07:00 PM

Oh yeah it moves a LOT easier now. It's kind of tough not to get into the throttle though lol.
As for the bumper brackets, No, the rear has to stay at stock height because the class III hitch is incorporated with the bumper brackets. Saturday I'm going to make some fillers out of expanded aluminum & aluminum checker plate to fill the gaps, then take them for powdercoating.

Update

Finding the Bosch pigtails for EV6 injectors is a biotch. No shop I can find has them & I want new rather than out of a junkyard. Junkyard ones may have issues with the weatherpacks & I want them to seal, no worries of grounding out, water etc.

I have to get that intake manifold on because it's starving at 4500rpm+ & when I hauled the boat (on Nov. 7 unheard of - boating in Nov. in Manitoba lol) the knock sensors kicked in, retarded the ignition & kept me at 110 km/h 68 mp/h, even when I tried the peddle down for a few seconds. I was hauling the boat so it was working harder than normal & needed the fuel for the 6psi of air it was getting = No Go! lol

So with that intake & all 6 - 36lb injectors feeding fuel (possibly a high volume fuel pump, gotta check on the flow rate #'s) it should have no issues 'picking it up' on the highway & nevermind just day to day driving, it already moves a lot better.

Today I drove it home from work in a semi manual mode... left it in 1st in clogged traffic & pushed it a bit past where it would normally shift (compression braking a bit too) - wow! I'm thinking of getting the trans. rebuilt w/stage 2 shift kit & a Corvette servo so I keep the transmission in check, don't melt belts/clutches & it can handle a bit of abuse & more power. Maybe even a passive cooler - the kind with the fins & made from aluminum, to cool the tranny better.

The people that STOP, Turn their heads & look for a Subaru or w/e around is funny, then they see me back up from a parking spot & hear that it's that Blazer sounding like that - more than a few had the "scratching their head" kinda look on their face. AKA WTF

<You know you love your Blazer when - people think the sound they hear is from a car from The fast & the Furious>

With the intake it should be right up there with very decent power & performance through-out the gears. Awsome for what I want it to do - hauling the boat. Not to mention the oddity of a supercharged Blazer, thats cool too.

Thats my update... cest la vie

Rottidog 11-14-2010 09:30 PM

Found the actual pigtails for my injectors yesterday! Talk about happy OMFG, when my friend gets back from Las Vegas & installs the intake (lil bit of phucking around to make it work) & I can co-ordonate that being done, tow truck & the dyno tune = Tom will be a happy man with his blazer getting all the fuel it needs. If the stock fuel pump can feed the 36lb Bosch injectors. It should be capable of enough line pressure & flow... if not guess what - new high flow fuel pump!

But that's the way things go... you want taller tires you have to start at the end - what does that take? I want more power, that involves the Wynjammer, more fuel & how it's delivered...
Taller tires, more room below the rear diff. & frame = BL, SL, trimming/cutting... it's never ending lol - so 'You know you love your Blazer when...'

zedartwo 11-15-2010 06:38 PM

Just plan awesome! Since I saw your sig say supercharger, Everytime I hear my alternator whine through my speakers, I wish it was a supercharger. Maybe a vid of you, the blazer and an empty parking lot?

Rottidog 11-15-2010 07:00 PM

Thanks man!
Yeah it's a sound I'm getting used to, buddy says it's annoying, I say NO - it's HP man!!! (he drives a Windstar family go-getter 3.8L)

& Lol not yet... I got it not for abuse ya know, it's to tow the boat in the summer & pass the 90 km/h people on the windey roads when we want to go 120. ;)

But yeah, it's fun so far... I KNOW I'm going to get that tranny rebuilt or a 2nd stage shift kit in it with a corvette servo so I don't fry the 2nd gear belt, it's just sofaking cool shifting manually & hearing it whine up & feeling the boost!
With only 45+- hp to the rear wheels it does put you back & you feel it! I can't wait to get the intake installed with its injectors & it finally has the fuel to match the air... wow, should be good for a solid 60+ hp to the rear wheels. (I hope I'm under rating that)

Speaking of the speakers' sound - got a ground isolator/cap for that?!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bl0YwGxOJms the vid is a lil long, sorry & it's (the Wynjammer) not as loud as that with the hood closed, but ffs when I heard a vehicle in the shop on the dyno I thought <wow, that sounds awsome!, I wish mine had that!> then my salesman was off the phone & asked if I wanted to go see my truck - D'OH lol

<edit> btw, even with the 32" mudders that are aftermarket siped, 3:42 rear, I can light them up with 1/2 - 3/4 throttle now (on wet roads even with the posi they break lose, mudders aren't that great on wet roads even with the extra siping I got), before I had to be turning & peddle to the floor damn near ;) & passing is not an issue, more a gratification lol

Rottidog 12-15-2010 09:06 PM

Got the Blazer in the shop next tuesday for the marine intake install & Wolf will tune the PCM afterwards on the dyno for the injectors etc. Talk about being pumped up! (barring any issues) Zed... Maybe a parking lot, vid cam, Streblo & the Blazers mucking around might be in order. Got the trans rebuilt last week http://www.blazerforum.com/forum/sho...34401&page=228 & it's uber strong for towing or whatever I feel like tossing at it. They built it like they do for 1/2 ton chevy's that go off road & have some abuse tossed at them - so I should be fine with the hopefully 220+- RWHP. Got 180 RWHP now.

streblo 12-15-2010 11:57 PM

Nice, about time you got that intake, stoked to hear how it goes! Some snow and im all for that!

Rottidog 12-22-2010 07:59 PM

Intake update

Got the intake installed yesterday & today. Mechanic had some issues finding proper fittings & a good quality fuel line with the proper fittings so there aren't any leaks. Like I'd want gas spewing all over then engine at 60 PSI - PASSSSSSS!
It fired right up 1st try, awsome!! Runs OK right now but it's running rich with the PCM tuned to run the fuel high with the spyder, but now it has the 6 Bosch 36lb injectors so we'll see how it turns out after the dyno tune tomorrow.
After I get it back tomorrow maybe I'll run the split looms for the wires etc & take/post some pics. I'll also send my camera & get the salesman to take a vid or 2 of it on the dyno & I want one from the other side of the shop. It sounded great in the lobby when they had it on the dyno last time so I'll ask him to get one just for sound from there as well.

zedartwo 12-22-2010 08:15 PM

Nice! Can't wait!
