OK, I have an 85 blazer. Love it. But I got a few questions. I assume I need to be in Neutral to put it into 4 wheel drive etc. Also, is the selector lever mechanical, or electric? What's the max speed limits for 4 hi and low?
I have no RPO in the glove box. Could it be somewhere else? I was wondering what axel ratios these 4X4 autos came with in 1985. Otherwise, I love it!
Oh, one more thing, there is a hugely annoying squeaky rattle coming somewhere from the back. I can't pin point it, but the jack is out, and there doesn't seem to be anything loose. Is this common, or do I have to hunt down the source with a friend?
Obliged,

Wes

give it some time man.
4x4 is vaccum actuated
that's about all i know with what you asked except maybe the axle ratios are like 3.43 or 3.42 or somewhere in there

Your back window is probably loose...just use electrical tape on the metal inserts. Just don't use too much or the window will not close.

Nice looking truck. I like that classic chevy color combo.

That's exactly what it was. Yer a badass, too.
OK part two: Will a torsion bar tweak give me 1" more without too many problems? I was thinking of going 2" in back and 1" in front(backs are sagging some).

Park or neutral to go into 4wd and it's mechanical. I don't know for sure but I wouldn't go more than 80/90kms/hr in 4 hi, and crawling in 4 low. My 85 had 4.11's, but take your VIN to a GM dealer and have them run it for more info. Yes it's probably the rear hatch glass rattling. Also how is your rear spare carrier mounted?
edit: Ya you can go 1-1.5", I wouldn't go more than 2". Also would need to get an alignment done afterwards.

Yeah, it's da glass. I was thinking if I lofted it 2" or so, I could maybe fit some 31's in there.
My local Gm dealers can't go further back than 1991 on the VIN. Know anyone else I can maybe call and ask?
Obliged,

4wd high I have been highway speed (55mph) no problems. 4wd low I think 20 mph is max. Shifter is cable actuated along with vacuum operation. Neutral is what gear you should have to shift it into 4wd. I have shifted mine into 4wd after shifting into neutral and still rolling (5mph or so) and it seems to be a LOT easier to shift into 4wd gears, especially 4 low.
