So? what are the second gen blazers really capable of?

@97OregonBlazer, you running an open diff or do you have a G80? I read somewhere that by lightly applying the brakes with an open diff if you are stuck it will transfer some torque over to the wheel with traction. I do not really believe that it will work with an open diff sounds like what you are supposed to do with a truetrac. Anybody able to validate that this works with an open diff?
I've gotten unstuck quite a few times using this technique.

defiant i still went on wet trails, went through mud and puddles up to my hood before in stock all terrains same size as yours. trust me the blazer will do great, you might be in a spot a bit longer, but you can still do it. i do suggest for more aggressive look and stance and performance ill say, get some mud terrains, worth the money and look great.
other then that got aluminum skids and 30"s and my blazer gets muddy and plays on trails lol.

@97OregonBlazer, I would get some more aggressive tires If I hadn't just replaced them a month ago. I don't really have the cash to get an extra set of rims to mount some on to change them out when needed either, I'm a broke college student. The money to get that would easily pay for an LSD. I'm pretty set on getting an LSD or Locker now that I see they aren't too expensive. Found a website selling a Powertrax for 330 bucks. I'm just worried about driveability. I would like to get a TrueTrac but they are expensive and from I have read there is more involved in installing them, making the labor costs to get one installed much more I am sure. This article http://www.4x4wire.com/reviews/no-slip/review/? gave me a lot of insight into the powertrax no slip locker, it seems to have slightly better street manners. Anybody have any experience with any of these?

well you should be fine man, im not saying you have to or must need them. im just saying if you ever want aggressive look and stance get them. and i know where your comin from man, i just about sold my blazer and everything else i own just to pay for school, heck i used to eat top ramen every day because it only costed me like 30 cents.
but anyways yeah i would get a locker, if i personally didnt get the mud tires first i would have done what your doing right now and started searching for a locker myself, if you dont have the "more grippy tires" atleast you got a locker, and that will get you through some sh*t.
half the times i get stuck is because only one wheel is spinning in back if that gives you idea. you could probably get further then me lol
good luck on the search!

The S series trucks are no Rubicon, but they can go a lot of places and have a lot of fun.

From what I have been told Rubicons aren't all that grand considering the amount of money you have to shell out for one. I bet you could build a more offroad capable wrangler for much cheaper just modifying a bone stock bottom of the barrell one yourself versus paying Jeep tons of money for the offroad packages they offer, that is if voiding the warranty doesn't bother you.
I had a buddy who bought a brand new Jeep Unlimited in 2007, I want to say it was the offroad package they offered right below the rubicon and his was crap offroad. I think this was the first year for the new body style with four doors, anyway the first time he took it out mudding the front suspension screwed up and was popping and creaking everytime he went over any kind of bump. He took it in to get warrantied, they fixed the issue, can't remember what the problem was. The second time he took it out the same thing happened to the same side, the front passenger side. He took it in and they fixed it again, this time the service tech told him that the suspension in the new wrangler's aren't as good as what was in the generation before. After that my buddy said screw it and hasn't taken it offroad since. His experience with his jeep has pretty much sold me on never getting one because what is the point of having an offroad vehicle if it's gonna crap out on you every time you take it out.
