Hello all! Newbie here. I come to you for help...BIG HELP!! I have a '89 S10 Blazer and want to install a swinging rear tire carrier. Is it possible? If so, at what length do I have to go? Some say it will not be possible, due to it not coming from factory with one. Says it will tear apart the fender. PLEASE direct me with some hope and relief!
People haved added these to the second gen 4dr Blazers that never had them so I'm sure it is possible.
If I were you I'd go to a wrecking yard to see how they were mounted on the 2dr ones that did come with them. Fortunately, the 1st gen 2drs often came with the swing-away tire carrier. You might even get some of the hardware needed to mount it.
You have to add reinforcements to the inside of the body panels, There is internal support on the factory tire carriers. I believe there is a write up on this forum.
Where did you get that one? I'm currently in the market for one myself to put on my 2nd gen blazer that did not come with one. I'm having trouble finding them anywhere but on eBay for far overpriced and I really need one! I plan to modify the bottom mount and tie it into the frame for support though, which you may not want to do. The other option is to add reinforcement to the inside as mr.vls said
Edit: Realized this is the first gen carrier that's much easier to find...
