Default assist steps

Anyone here with a '20-'25 model with factory option VXW assist steps? Thinking of adding them to our new-to-us '24 RS. The GM service part 42491246 says the step area is 3 3/8" wide which isn't exactly generous (especially compared to my Silverado steps). Can't help but wonder how much of that width is actually useable when installed on the vehicle as there's a door aperture weatherstrip down there. Do you find them very useful? How much useable step area is there? Would like to know they will be worth the almost $600 sticker plus $260 installation. If anyone has installed a reasonable quality aftermarket set I would consider that option but after trying 2 kits already would be a bit skeptical. They both would have required drilling holes into the boxed frame rail in an area of critical strength and the fasteners would not close and seal those holes which would guarantee corrosion from the inside soon. Feel free to PM me as it will come to my e-mail notifications.

I Googled that part number and don't get it --- are they electric and go out and retract? If not, I think they are decorative more than practical.

I have tubuler full length running boards on one crew cab and those stirrup-styles on another and even though they do not move in and out, they are certainly applicable for ingress and egress.

Your results may have different requirements, but I think the electric ones are too $$$ for what they are.
