What I did was pull my grille off (Was doing clear corners at the same time) and pulled the bow tie apart. The gold part actually has an inner plastic backing that's purple.
My bowtie was separating, so I separated the two portions completely, painted the inside of the gold bowtie silver again and painted the purple backing black and re-installed that. It looked great and if I had decided to go back stock all I would have had to do is put some double sided tape inside the bowtie and pop it back on... wouldn't even have to pull the grille off again lol.

mine was black when i got from the last guy that owned it lil i think its vinly wrap though
