Lets see some CB installs

I have been looking at putting a CB into my blazer but i would like to get some ideas about where to mount it. I have thought about in the console, under the dash, etc. But if anybody has any pictures of their installs Post Em UP.

alot of ppl like to take the ashtray out and mount it in that spot... or if you have a cassette player you could mount it it there too

EDIT: the bottom link is if you want to put it in the cassette player spot o just read allittle bit

well i have my aux input cord for my ipod run inside the ashtray so when i open it I can plug the ipod up and it fits perfect to set inside while im using it. so I was trying to mount where I could still open the tray up.

R3MiX 03-07-2010 03:28 AM

Granted my blazer is a little older than you alls, but this is where I mounted my CB. cut out an a/c vent, and stuck it in the dash.

speterson1011 03-07-2010 09:06 AM

Here's mine, just drilled two holes and put it in. The amp for it is down towards the bottom setting on the center console tray. http://i909.photobucket.com/albums/a...1262926572.jpg

sifd4x4 03-07-2010 03:20 PM

those installs look good. I like the casette player spot but I have the other console. And i thought about the spot that speterson1011 put his but the CB im lookin at may be too wide. Its too bad we dont have a cubby on the ceiling that it could be put in without looking bad.

speterson1011 03-07-2010 03:33 PM

Yah that would look good putting up on the roof. I wanted a bigger one but just went with the small one and tuned it up like a big on so it could fit

wlorton 03-07-2010 04:20 PM

Do you have the CD case in your console? That would be an optimal place... Maybe you could mount it in the glove box and just run a cord out??

Or mount it over the "OH SH*T" handle on the passenger side?

Mount it to the ceiling (assuming no oh console or sunroof) and run the wire down a pillar?

Mount it to the bottom of your seat?

Idk, just a few Ideas, I think I might need to get a cb soon....

Sisk 03-07-2010 05:19 PM

Well mine is just a handheld..so I'm not sure it is what you were looking for...but here's mine:

sifd4x4 03-07-2010 05:57 PM

those are some good ideas wlorton but i got a sunroof. But i like the cd case idea.

Rogue 03-07-2010 06:15 PM

Sisk

Thinking about a hand held myself. What external antenna are you using?

Otherwise, the cassette deck or cassette tape holder spots are great ideas.

99blaz 03-07-2010 06:17 PM

I just put mine under the ash tray. But everytime you hit a bump it will fall so i just wdged something behind it to keep it up.

Sisk 03-08-2010 09:11 AM

Holy crap :icon_eek:. That's quite the setup you have!! I like it a lot. Is that a Ford that all of that is in? looks like a Ford dash...
Where did you get the sweet car charger light? I like that a lot.

radiokid 03-08-2010 01:20 PM

Yes thats my Ford Excursion, it is my emergency response vehicle for amateur radio emergency communications.

I have a 91 blazer that i am working on transferring into a communication truck. images coming soon

Sisk 03-08-2010 01:35 PM

Nice...what about that light you have plugged into the cigarette lighter? Where'd you find that at? It's pretty sweet.

I am a paramedic / firefighter.
however my truck is my personal vehicle and the radios mounted in the console very from "Ham" amateur radio's covering HF VHF UHF, i have my fire dispatch radio, and a radio to communicate with the American red cross for disaster relief operations.

I provide emergency communication in the event of a natural or man made disaster. Also when it comes to public service events like marathons and races etc.. i provide the mobile communication command center.

sifd4x4 03-08-2010 07:59 PM

sounds like a good job. Your excursion console is very similar to the rescue squad superduty that my county has. I recently bought a slightly used PRO-164 trunking handheld scanner that Im going to try and mount next week and install an external antenna.

WolfPack 03-08-2010 08:47 PM

a solution to those of you mounting the CB beneath the ash try and want to prevent it from falling open on bumps and what not, use a large-headed, short post screw into the side of the ash tray. It pushes against the dash cage and keeps it from falling open. Just tighten or loosen to adjust how hard it is to shut the ash tray (I have mine sticking out pretty far because I never use the ash tray).

sifd4x4 03-08-2010 09:54 PM

Has anybody ever come across a antenna mount that can be clamped on the spare tire carrier? I have looked to see if there are any made for Jeep's but I havent come up with much.

Benedict1337 03-08-2010 11:28 PM

you could always custom make one. it doesn't seem too difficult. I know most antenna's come with a clamp to clamp to a mirror

Good idea, I just stuffed some cardboard up behind it lol. It works for now.

Jonas 03-09-2010 04:11 PM

A cb is a two way radio for any one to use to communicate with friends and you can talk to truck drivers.
It uses the 26-27 mhz frequency

I guess people don't know the wonders of :icon_google:....

citizens band radio ;)

Is this allowed without any license everywhere?

Benedict1337 03-10-2010 02:52 AM

i think so? they are pretty much just high powered walkie takies

Sisk 03-10-2010 08:39 AM

Yeah...you only need a license for Ham radio's. CB's you can operate anywhere without a license or registration. Truckers are probably the most common users of CB radios.

Jonas.. what country do you live in?

If you do not live in the united states or Canada CB radio's and the frequency may be different.

In the united states there are 4 types of cb radios and the"band" or frequency it operates on. the most common is the cobra 40 channel CB radio on the 26&27 mhz band.

another is called FRS "family radio service" limited to half of a watt (500 miliwatts) & use the 462-467 mhz band and are hand held radios.

another service is called MURS (multiple use radio service) limited to 2 watts on the VHF band 151 154 mhz

and the last are part 15 of the fcc rules and are not considered to be a "CB" is the 46 mhz walkie talkie limited to 1/8th of a watt . whats kids use.:icon_wink:

Hi RadioKid!

Im from Sweden up north in Europe :)

Maybe I should get one of those CB Radios and see if someone want to talk to me :)

Sisk 03-10-2010 10:38 AM

Ah...that explains it lol. I didn't know you were a Swede. I'm not sure how CB's work over in Europe. I assume it's the same though, you shouldn't need a license.

I looked at those CB's. Seem to work pretty good and still be compact with all the controls on the mic.

Thats close but not exactly. I was more looking toward one that attaches to the tube part of the spare tire rack. and will actually mount on the back instead of the side.
