Question Lift Gate Strut Replacment

I need to replace the lift gate struts on my '98 LS 4dr, 4wd, but by looking at the existing ones I can't see how to remove 'em. Is that springy, circlip thing all that holds 'em on? Any recommendations for replacement brand? Rock Auto carries Monroe, Strongarm, and Sachs. Thanks.

Remove 1 arm at a time. On the bottom, remove the retaining u-clip and pop the arm off the mounting ball. On the top, remove the retaining cap on the pivot inside and slide the pivot out.
