On a 1988 auto its gonna be a 700r4 if its the factory tranny. Sounds like you might have gotten somebody's project truck and to be truthful there is no telling if its factory without looking at it.

I also agree on getting the parts from a junkyard. I would stay out of the overpriced LMC book unless its a part you can not find anywhere else and badly need it.

For $450.00 I'd buy it anyway. What do you mean by manual 4X4? Manual trans or transfer case? The transfer cases really aren't that hard. You just need a good book (factory manuals are the best) and you can overhaul it in no time. The parts aren't too bad either. Just stay away from the dealer. There's a bunch of folks that sell parts to these things.

i'm thinking he meant it was a manual trans (re-read his post, that's what it sounds like to me anyways).

I know for a Fact this wasnt a project truck my grandma bought it brand new in 1987 lol i do know however they rebuilt the engine and it has about 75,000 miles on it

also i meant to say earlier that he will sell the whole truck for 450.00 but also i can take everything i want for one payment of 200.00 so what should i do? im just gunna asume its a bad clutch and buy it and just spend the 100.00 for a new clutch and WAALA i got a new truck

im kinda thinkiong if hes willing to part it out for 200 i caN prob get the whole truck for 3 - 3 1/2

WTF did you buy on credit?
Also the truck I'm talking about a pick-n-pull is a late first gen (93-94 didn't look at the year) so you could get the newer dash out of it and it's a CFC so the tranny is probally still good.

The whole truck was in good conditon, to bad it got CFC'ed
