I looked online and I saw an.option for the rattle can.

 

spray it on, then clear over it.
but of course, like anything you paint, primer, paint, clear

if the chips arnt that big, get the color you need in a pint size or something, then get a pint of clear, in a small jar, mix the color with the clear little under half and half (say 4 parts color, 3 parts clear) then dot it on the chips with a fine paint brush, and let it dry.
