Does anyone know what that black electrical plug is on the right dash radio speaker cover on my 02 ls is?

Outside/sunlight sensor, used for auto and/or daytime running lights

You are half right, it is the sensor for the auto headlight function. The daytime running lights are a whole different animal and completely separate from the auto function.
