Default rekey a "new" lock with old key

I was at the u pull today, getting all the good parts I could find there (came out good today LOL) anyways, I finally found a gate lock for the jimmy, since mine on there now does not work, it has a key with it, so if i cant rekey it, its not a problem.
But is there a way to take the lock i got from the salvage yard, and rekey it to the original keys that I have for the truck? I know that a lock smith could do it, but I am good at figuring things out and would like to do it myself.
