First post here, after searching this forum and the internet in general I can't find exactly what I'm looking for.

My 95 Jimmy has its stock roof rack, which I'm realizing is looking pretty beat up after 286k miles. I want to take it off and repaint it black. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I've heard use bed liner, I've heard don't use bed liner. I know I have to sand it enough to get the chips off, and then clean it before I spray it. I've heard those "Hammered" sprays are good.

 

You're right about sanding it down and cleaning first. For something like that I would just use plain ol' rustoleum. Just my .02 cents
