freeing up some power
hey this is just to let you guys know i was talking to a friend at my speed shop and if you guys want to free up some power you can always remove the clutch fan and put an electric one on, he tells me a fan could be stealing about 15hp dont know if anyone could be back me up on this but i thought id let you guys know could be interesting to try it out, i know i was gonna try it, alot of people do this on muscle cars to free up the power.
True that an electric would draw less HP than most clutch fans, but in this case I highly doubt it to be anywhere in the vicinity of 15HP. The fans on the 4.3 are pretty danged efficient in the amount of air flow vs the power used.
I hate starting any arguments, but Wynjammer's website has the same bit of info specific to 4.3L engines here -> http://www.wynjammer.com/ALM1115/GM_...manceMods.html
I don't know about 12hp as they claim either, but I know I can hear alot of blowing under the hood of my Jimmy from that fan and I imagine it takes a bit to turn it like that. Either way it seems like a decent way to free up at least a few HP.

first a K&N air filter. then a electric fan. take off your air housing, at the thorttle body. under the butter fly is a air-dam. take that air dam off. a torcq driver will be needed. that freed=up alot of take-off HP. you will have to drill out those rivits. then take good-ol duct tape to cover those hose. then take the map sensor off. there is a screen - take it off, CAREFULLY CAREFULLY CAREFULLY CAREFULLY CAREFULLY CAREFULLY CAREFULLY CAREFULLY CAREFULLY - did i say carefully??? take brake spray and a tooth brush, an old tooth brush. saturate the inside of the map sensor. those little sensors inside are very important. but you can get a replavement for $70 if your not carefull. take the tooth brush and lightly carefully brush them. i gained 4 MPG with these. plus 100% accutane in the gas take, 2oz's per 18 gallons. is said to increase even more MPG up to 3 more gallons PER mile.

Anyone looking to do the throttle body deflector mod and/or the MAF de-screen should read up on both. They both have their purpose. Having done the deflector mod myself, I can say that it didn't do a thing for performance or efficiency. Absolutely no change in WOT performance, but throttle sensitivity (tip-in) was increased at lower throttle angles.
i believe you need to buy special electronics cleaner for the maf sensor...autozone sells a can of cleaner specially made for that...8 bucks i think. and you should NEVER EVER EVER touch the sensor...the spray will clean it fine on its own.
The screen in front of the MAF is to straighten out the airflow before it flows across the sensor itself to give a more accurate reading. If its removed the pcm should be tuned accordingly. I doubt this would free up any power on the 4.3
