I am new to this fourm and i am looking to get more, well i want torque more then i want HP for burnouts and stuff. An increase in MPG wouldnt be too bad either. I have been looking at some engine parts and the usual intake and exhaust. Here are all the items i am looking at for the exhaust (i cant decide between the dynomax or the gibson which is louder?)
Headers: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Cat: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Gibson exhaust: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Dynomax exhaust: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
If you have a suggestion for a louder exhaust i would look into the suggested exhaust.
For internal engine parts I picked out these two items
Rockers: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Cam: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Will these rockers and cam work well together?
I also picked out a couple other parts for the rotating assembly and other stuff
Thermostat: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Water pump (high volume): http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Pulleys: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Because the pulleys I am looking at are making the alternator spin slower which makes it charge slower should i purchase a higher output alternator with the pulleys or will a high quality battery due like an optima redtop battery. I am wondering this becauseI will add higher sparking electrical items.
I also want to purchase these items for the truck:
Tuner: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Mass airflow sensor: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Coils: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Sparkplugs: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Battery: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Plug wires: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Ignition Box: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Distributor: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
I also saw a Jet Stage 2 Computer chip but i didnt think i needed that with the programmer.
Computer Chip: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Now i know thats alot that i listed and it is alot of money for all of that but i will not get it at once i will slowly buy all of the parts for the blazer and eventually i will obtain all of these parts (unless some of you think things wont work together or some things are not needed) Where do you think i will be at for HP and Torque with all of these parts added to the blazer? this will be primarily my winter car but i will also take the car out during the summer and stuff when i do not want to drive my camaro or when i want to tow/haul. Thank you for your help!

The headers you listed were for 2wd. I have heard more about the dynomax than the Gibson meaning I believe more people have used it. I would say the MAF is a wash unless you`re going EXTREMELY high performance. Our stockers do just fine. For spark plugs I`m not sure if our trucks like NGK or not. I know for sure that Bosch is not welcome at all in our trucks. Pulleys do not give horsepower, they merely free up some required to turn accessories.
Best thing for MPG`s is to stay out of the gas, remove any extra weight, those sort of things. You will want to improve air intake, and exhaust. Improving spark wouldn`t be a bad idea. Then improving fuel delivery and you would be on your way. Most of our torque and horsepower is down low so if you want more power up top you will have to do internal work on the engine.
However I feel there are much better ways to spend $4300. And if you`re going to do this over a length of time, I would think of a vehicle that already has decent HP and MPG and invest in that instead.

With that cam, you will kill what little torque the 4.6L engine has. The only way to make that cam work is with 4.10 rear end gears or a high stall converter or both. Then thaere goes your gas milage. The only two ways to get good gas milage and higher horsepower is with nitrous oxide or a turbocharger. With nitrous oxide, the engine will live a short life butwillbe willing to die for the cause.
With any aftermarket parts used for more reilability and more power, you must completely internally re-balance the engine. That iswhy the more radical cams that are designed to make power above 4000 RPM arefor internally balanced 1st generation engines that do not have abalance shaft. TheGM and aftermarket performance parts for a 4.6L engine that I have found are not designedfor2nd generation balance shaft engines.

where did you get that these headers were for 2wd blazers? http://static.summitracing.com/globa...hev-gmcs-1.pdf<this instruction manual says 4wd blazers are in the list of applications. I am not really worried about MPG so if i get less then thats really fine for me, I would just like a sizeable boost in HP and Torque. I could scrap some of the items on my list like the computer chip, battery, pulleys, mass airflow sensor, water pump, thermostat, and the gibson exhaust. That would save me quite a bit of money. Do you think the rockers would really booster my HP? they say upto 25 so i would say i would gain about 10? at the wheels? say i just get that whole exhaust system, the rockers, and a CAI will what do you think my rear wheel output will be? i guess i dont need alot of this stuff i just want extra power for burnouts, passing on the highway at 70+, and towing and hauling and the occasional trail.

ask yourself this, is a '96' motor worth putting any money into before a complete rebuild or possibly 350sb swap? How many miles does it even have? I would start with any spare money and flush all fluids, and I do mean all fluids
il, trans, radiator, differential & rear, even the power steering as well as bleed the brakes. However, to answer your questions if it were low miles, I would say go with a nice Catco or Magnaflow highfloConverterand back exhaust from Dynomax or Magnaflow, (Headers are not worth the $ or continuous p.i.t.a.)A new Y-Pipe will get you way better gains for the money, and stock manifoldslast longer. You can't beat a custom tune for price and power with mpg gains versus a chip or programmer. I wouldn't put anything other than AC Delco ignition parts in these trucks as they come stock fairly hott as is, and these 4.3s' hate any other plugs but Delcos! As far as intake goes, if I could do it over, I would keep the stock airbox with a drop-in K&N and fabricate a new intake tubing of some sort.

Duntov: Put down the Vodka and read your posts, since when did GM start putting 4.6L in any S10 or Blazer?

You'll spend just as much money as simply dropping in agen2LT1 (which are super cheap for what they are).

Want power now. Try a dry Nitrous kit. Its a real kick in the pants. Just follow the instructions, you'll have a blast and your engine will be fine.

in my opinion i wouldn't run mufflers i have a 1993 S10 blazer was getting around 22-24 mpg then i went and pulled the muflfler off and put bigger pipe on and put a new catty on it and with a 4inch echo tip out the back i i've been getting around 27-28 mpg every time i go to springfield missouri.
thats just my opinion when i rebuild my engine soon i'm putting headers with true dual straights but i'll have 2 high flow racing catty's on with 5 inch tips out the back and i'll get more power and better mpg then thats just my .02

For exahaust i would put a flowmaster muffler on it... very LOUD! They dont make one for blazers but a bunch of shops can bend pipes and fabricate a good exhaust system.
