Performance Upgrades *Suggestions Appreciated
#1
Just purchased a 1999 Blazer 4wd. My first mods will be performance related. I've just gotten lost in the vast ocean of knowledge offered on this forum and have quickly acquired a few suggestions. Comments and further suggestions are appreciated. Here is my list of suggested performance enhancing mods:
-General tune up.
-K&N Performance Intake Kit
http://bit.ly/gEr2cw
-Cat-back system
http://bit.ly/fSboqJ
-PCM Tune
http://bit.ly/fHVGVu
Does this sound like a good start? What are your suggestions?
Here are my questions:
Is the cat-back system linked actually for my make and model?
Are the Blazer engine /parts the same/similar to an S-10, just without the S-10 prefix on the name. Any link to this information?
What type/ model of lighter tires and or rims would you all recommend?
Thanks a ton!

lighter rims? are you on steel rims? if so you could go stock alloys...
since you have a 4x4 you have odd backspacing (6") so aftermarket rims are harder to find than a more standard size.
4wd usually had 235/75r15 or 235/70r15 tires... use this chart if you want to change tire size based on your gearing for better mpgs...
Engine parts are the same for 98+ s10/blazer/jimmy/sonoma/bravada so long as it's the 4.3L. that is an over generalization as there was some changes later on... and a lot of the earlier stuff can be used... here is a link with some year ranges and such but the simple answer is year range is part dependant i guess...
That one won't fit. Is your blazer a 2 or 4 dr?
Dynomax 17336 is your base line pre-made cat back kit for a 4 dr for example...
teaming that up with a CAI and a tune sounds like you are on the right track!
Dont underestimate the power of a decent tune up and fillling your tries to the correct psi either
look into sea foam to clean some of the crud out of your engine (before tune up!)
you can get nuts and remove weight in the back, remove the roof rack for aerodynamics, watch your tach and try to keep the rpm's low... (under 2500 all the time for uber efficientcy)
clean your EGR valve and MAF sensor.
there is plenty in the forum if you search <<<<<-----------------------------

Thanks for the Dynomax link. It's a 4 door. That is a hell of a lot cheaper.
Not sure on the tires or rims. I'll check in the morning. I got such a good cash price for it I just took it home after I drove it around. That article and ratio chart is just the kind of information I was looking for also.
Thanks a lot!

no problem. there is tons on here...
luckily everyone wants a couple more MPGs so look into it.
it will show you whats worth it and not. a lot of car MPG gaining gimmicks either suck, or your engine alreay does better....
look into the DIY CAI
use this guy and make your own shroud to block off hot engine air.
that will save you $200+ that you can use to get a real filter (spectre and k&n are populare options) and you still pocket at least $150...
and pcmforless is a good way to go. i have not done the tune... but the people that have, and used those guys, loved em. you might want to get a JY brain to send in as your core so you can still drive her (if the cash is free) that way if you ever needed to you could drop you original stock brain back in, or sell it to cover the JY core later on.
