2002 Blazer 4-door 4x4. Sister was driving it, heard a clunk and now the front passenger wheel is rubbing against the wheel well. There is no gap between the top of the tire and the well.

I jacked it up and can see nothing broken. Frame, control arms, ball joints, shock mounts are all where they are supposed to be with no cracks or breaks.

02 4x4 has no front springs so is this just a blown shock? I can't understand the entire front end being suspended by only 2 shocks.

Anyone point me in the right direction?

 

Found the problem. I followed the torsion bar to the back and where the key bolts to the crossmember. The crossmember has a hole where the bolt is supposed to be. How hard are is it to replace that rear torsion crossmember. Any special tools required?

I was thinking of welding a plate to it and using the plate to support the adjuster but the crack is pretty big ( a few inches) plus the crack on the lower lip. I either have to buy a new welder (old one is dead) or a new support. Which is easier?

Also, anyone know what the support is actually called or a part #? I can't find anything on the net.

 

Pretty sire that torsion bar support cross member is just bolted to the frame rails, someone can correct me if I'm wrong. May be able to find a usable one in a salvage yard.


I would advise you though, if you're not use to working on suspension parts or know just how much force springs and torsion bars are capable of holding, have someone else work on it for you. They can be VERY dangerous if handled improperly.
