My Blazer has started making noise while driving. I checked the transfer case and it was very dry on gear oil. When the truck is put into 4 wheel drive the right wheel pops. The wheel will build tension to a point, stop handling correctly, then pop and repeat, by pop I mean it will literally hop a little. In 2 wheel drive there is noise, but no popping. I originally checked both wheels for slack by jacking up the truck and testing 12 and 6 then 3 and 9 positions for some wobble but they were tight. Wondering what I tore up this time. Ha. Any suggestions on where to start?

your cv axle is probaly toast. Just jacking the truck up and spinning the wheel checks the wheel bearing which sits in the knuckle the cv is behind that and carries no vheicle weight. The reason it still makes a little noise in 2wd is because the front axle disengages the passenger side axle shaft through a coupler so your cv axles spin all the time unlike an old solid axle truck where you disconnect the hubs and the tire just free wheels on the bearing and the axle shaft behind it dones not turn. check the rubber boots if they are ripped open then they are definitly bad mud and dirt gets in the bearings and eats em up. They can still go bad if its not ripped the greese gets old and breaks down. once they get bad enough it could grenade then you wont be going anywhere in 2 or 4wd very rare that would happen but not sure how bad it is. there about 70$ new and not to hard to replace takes about 1 hour to change for me anyway. your transfer case might have a leak if it was dry that wouldnt be good either but if it doesnt make grinding noises after you fill it up its probaly fine it also takes ATF not gear oil fyi.
