Default 2000 Blazer pops out of gear on incline

Have a 2000 with 215k miles on it, this has been happening forever and I want to get it figured out. If I park on any decent incline and put it into gear and turn it off, it slowly "pops out of gear" (for lack of better explanation) and will slowly bop down the incline. I have to also fix my parking brake, but for now i have to chock it to put it in my driveway. I searched and didn't find anything related, is this a transmission or clutch issue or ?

I have zero ability (knowledge or patience) to work on transmissions so if that's what it is, I'll have to take it somewhere.

Thanks for the help.

It’s not popping out of gear,it’s turning the engine over from low compression in a high mileage vehicle. Not having a functioning emergency brake it will move. Need to address this right away as that is a huge liability for you or someone else that may happen to get hurt from the vehicle taking off on its own.

So this is a manual transmission? Yes putting into gear and expecting it to stay in place is not wise. As someone who grew up driving on the steep streets of Seattle and now using a boat ramp, I have always made sure my parking brake worked.

To adjust the parking brake, the adjusters at the shoes must be set correctly. The adjustment is NOT at the cable that runs under the left-side near the frame rail of the truck to the back axle. The reason I have never taken my truck back to the dealer was because they couldn't figure out how to do the adjustment on their own brand of vehicle.

Also the fact that E brakes work the best with forward pressure, holding with rear downward slope not so much
