i have a 2000 blazer zr2 with low miles, thought it was a good deal, untill i found the 4x4 doesnt work when winter comes, heres my list of problems any ideas are helpfull
my rear end just started making a creaking and looks to twist more than it should and creaks when stopping and taking off from a stand.
i monkeyed around with my 4x4 problem and found that my vaccume lines are all working properly and my plunger pulls the front end in properly, so im wondering what els could be wrong that my front end wont engage properly in 4x4 modes, i have the 4 button selecion,
third is that annoying problem blazers have with a almost bouncing noise comming from the front right fender wheel area, mine an my mothers blazers both have the exact same problems in the front and in the 4x4,

for the creaking i was thinking my ubolts where loose but its hard to say, i cant see any movement just that my drive shaft droped about 2 inches when some one takes off and it makes a loud creaking it also does the same thing when i press my breaks not when im already moving or when trans shifts tho?? /
as for the 4x4 im mostly wondering what exactly controls my front diff, like is there an accuator because i know the wire is being pulled properly buy my plunger, so something other than that must be an issue, i know my transfer case is engaging so im lost

there is a write up on here somplace about the front diff, it has a slider
gear that can wear out to the point that the sliding coupler will not
connect the front wheel, the unfortunate part is that the pass.
side axle tube must be removed, not that big a deal, but there must be a better way to check it for proper operations...
There is not a lot to look for in fixing a 4x4 problem, i found its only a few
parts that can go wrong,,, Vacuum diaphram under battery, Shift Solinoid
mounted on the firewall with two vacuum lines, and the shift motor.
Also the cable from the Vacuum diaphram can get corroded and stop
working

This thread (see below) talks about the front axle engagement:

Its been week since i bought it. Going into any turn it feels like its gonna flip. If you look underneath it there is not much there to keep it upright. There not the toughest thing just cheap transportation
