2001 4wd control arm replacement/ torsion bar
i have to replace the lower control arm in my blazer and im wondering if anyone can give me some pointers on the removal specifically the torsion bar. I have little experience with this style and im hoping someone can give me an idea on what i should do.
For this, a Chilton's or Hayne's manual you can get at an auto parts store should likely be sufficient to guide you and provide the torque specs.
I have attached the instructions for replacing the torsion bar from my 99 service manual. It is likely the same. I have not done the operation myself though.

Looking at the service manual, the answer is no. The tension on the torsion bar does have to be released though.
The forward end of the torsion bar is inserted into the lower control arm. The control arm and torsion bar can be removed together but, unless you're also replacing the torsion bar, you'll have to remove it from the old control arm to install it in the new one.
In that case, you do need to take the torsion bar out of it. And be warned, they can rust in place and be VERY difficult to remove. Maybe start squirting some kind kind of penetrating oil on it way in advance, just to be safe.
