4wd not engaging
Help! Worked on my 98 jimmy all day! 3 button 4wd,replaced any torn vac hoses, replaced vacuum switch on top of transfer case, checked actuator under battery tray and it is pulling and releasing when selector is switched from 2h to 4h. Correct lights are lit when it's in 2h or 4h. Tccm clicks when I select 2h or 4h as it should. I can hear transfer case click to engage and disengage when I do so but front wheels aren't engaging??? Am I missing something??? Any help would be appreciated!!
You need to jack the passenger front wheel off the ground and put it in 4X4 mode. Running in park, the wheel should not turn. If it doesn't, it's working. If it does, look at the front driveshaft while turning the wheel. If the shaft rotates, the TFC is not engaged. If it doesn't turn, the axle is not engaged. If the axle is not engaged, could be a bad cable, broken parts inside the axle, snapped halfshaft, etc.
Thanks,i may have figured it out.The right fender was hit and the vac actuator bracket under the battery tray was bent inward. I'm thinking it's not pulling the cable all the way to engage the 4wd.Went to the u-pull it today and got a fender for it and the bracket for the actuator.Gonna replace it tomorrow and see what happens.Fingers crossed.I already replaced transfer case vac switch, vac lines that were bad,and cable to the actuator.
