Default 4WD questions? Full size blazer

Hey All,

I have a 1992 k1500 Blazer and it's my first 4WD vehicle and runs like a champ with a few exceptions on the 4WD.

2wd and 4lo works great, 4hi doesn't. I'm not sure if there are any lights that are suppose to light up when the 4wd drive engages (where if any?) Fuses, switches, relays...etc...that I should check? If so, where are they? Thanks.

Electronic shift or manual pull lever on the floor? Can you get the numbers off of the tag on the back of the transfer case?

It's a manual pull level on the floor. I'll check tomorrow for the numbers. Something to get started on. thanks

Are you sure that 4LO is actually engaging the front axle?

The front axle engagement on those trucks is an electromagnet and is quite problematic. There is an update kit that can be installed to change this into a stepper motor engagement which is much more positive. It does require some rewiring.

If the front axle is engaging in 4LO, your shifter linkage could be out of adjustment.

The vehicle does engage into 4lo in the front axle for sure. As for the linkage...what type of adjustments are we talking about? How would I go about making the changes?
On the topic...does this type of 4wd mechanism engage a light somewhere? thanks

There should be a light in the console around the shifter that shows that the front axle is engaged. The switch is on the front axle near where the electromagnet actuator is located (passenger side of the diff housing).

To adjust the linkage, you place the shifter in the 4HI position. Then go under the vehicle and remove the shift linkage from the transfer case. Push the transfer case arm all the way forward (4HI) and then adjust the shift linkage using the swivel on the end by aligning it with the hole in the arm. Reassemble reverse of disassembly and away you go.
