hello, I have a 2000 gmc jimmy that I am trying very hard to keep on the road and fully functional. had our first snow of the year yesterday and used the 4x4 for the first time this year. everything worked as excepted however occasionally the indicator lights on the selector switch do not light up. some times not at all from key on and sometimes will go out while driving. I have no dtc's stored in the tccm and no service 4x4 light during malfunction. any thoughts ?

I had this issue all summer long on my 2001 GMC Jimmy. Then about two weeks ago when I needed my 4x4 it failed to engage then jammed up in 4lo. Turned out to be a slowly failing encoder motor.
Now I don't know if that is an indicator (so I wouldn't go ripping your encoder motor out), but that sounds just like what I had. Since the replacement I've had no issues with my 4x4 lights
It could also be a bad light behind the button especially if your 4x4 is working engaging and disengaging

Quick update on this.
I just drove from Houghton, MI to Duluth, MN (a canceled flight prompted the overnight road trip to catch another flight) and somewhere along the way I had my light go out randomly. Pushed the button again and it relit. No other incident since
So it seems to just be a lighting thing as I now have zero issues with my 4x4.
Does anyone else have insight on this? I assume just a bad LED
