4x4 not working
i have changed the vacum actuater under the battery tray, and the actuater on the tran/ and replaced the swiches on the dash. i have traced the lines off the trans and iam not sure if i followed them right. one line goes to the vacum ball on the hood, the other one seems to folloe up thr trans dipstick and has a plug in it,and the other one goes to the vacum under the battery. i started the truck and pulled those 3 line off the swicth and only one has vacum. i dont think i have any vacum at the one under the battery . i realy need some help with this its driving me nuts and costing money. hurry more snow to come
I am sorry for your situation, but you have to realize that there have been and will be many others like you with a problem. As such, there have already been numerous threads on this issue. But to better help, we need to at least know what it is you are driving. That basic information is a necessity and should be included in every request for help.
From the description you have given (vacuum ball), you have a 93-95 with the NV233 transfer case. Your tracing of the lines sounds exactly right as well. One is a vent, the one that is attached to the transmission dip stick tube. The other goes to the vacuum source at the vacuum ball. And the last goes to the vacuum actuator.
Here is a thread that links to several other threads discussing the diagnosis of the NV233 transfer case:
transfer case / encoder motor switch < Many good links
OBD2 Non-Automatic Transfer Case Diagnostic < Use this if you have a 95 with the OBD2 connector under the dash.
