Default 4x4 Posi-Lok question (hubs)

My buddy's looking to get this. We tried replacing the vacuum actuator, but that didn't work.

So he wants to bypass that all, and go to the posi-lok. I just got off the phone with a guy at the 4x4 shop who says he needs new front tires w/manual locking hubs.

Is this true? I'm reading off of LMC truck's site.

Here's the page with the posi-lok on it: http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cst/0053.asp

Now, it says it works like hubs with full control within the cab. So does he need new tires, or can he just get the kit and install it?

?? New Tires??

First off, what is the problem that a new vacuum actuator did not fix? Are you actually getting vacuum at the actuator when you should be? (selector in 4lo or 4hi)

He's been smoking something, the posi lock is just a manual actuator that replaces the vacuum operated one. S series trucks front drive hubs are allways "locked" to the axles. The actuator connects/disconnects the passenger side axle to the differential.

I did some digging on this site after I posted, and found a post about posi-lok that had some information about the permanently sealed/locked hubs, thanks for the response though
