I'm guessing transfer case... does it ever actually go into 4x4 or does it just keep grinding? Any noise at all in 2wd?

it drives good in 2wd, but vibrates like a bitch off the line...

im almost wondering if its stuck in 4x4, and wont disengage??

if it is the transfer case, how much work is it to replace it??

what would i be lookin at for money to replace it.

thx alot.

To see if it is in 4wd you can reach under the drivers door and try and turn the front drive shaft...if it turns you are in 2wd if it does not you are in 4wd....

As I responded in your other thread (see why having two threads on almost identical topics is a bad idea), I don't think that you can jump to conclusions and immediately say that the TC is bad. Do you have a repair manual for the truck? Nothing that you have stated so far would point lead me to believe that you need to replace the TC. The shudder off the line could be a poor running engine, bad engine mounts, etc.

With the grinding, are you still moving? Did you hit neutral in the TC before you stopped moving? If the transmission was put in neutral and the vehicle was stopped, there should be no moving parts to grind together in the TC...

And please do not criticize us for not answering your questions immediately in the first 24 hours. No one here lives on the forum to be at the beck-and-call of everyone in need. One thing that you have to remember is that we all do this for nothing. You can pay for immediate diagnosis, but please have a little patience for the free kind. It goes a long way towards you getting the answers you seek. Acting impatiently may cause many knowledgeable people to just not respond.
