Default 86 s10 blazer trasfercase problems

Hey all, I've been searching for information on my 86 blazer transfer case problems with no luck. Basically It will come out of 4 wheel drive, but the indicatior light still shows that front end is still engaged. It drives like it is to. Would this be the vacuum actuator on the transfer case? Thanks John

I have the same problem. Basically, when the vacuum actuator engages the front axle it pulls a collor and then the front is locked. There is a nipple switch that turns on that light for the front axle right where the collor is. When disengaged the collor isn't returning all the way back to where its suppose to be in 2wd so the light stays on.

When mine stays on I just drive it a few blocks and it turns off. I already replaced the switch and still no luck with it turning off. I actually replaced it because it wasn't coming on, but I still knew the front axle was engaged by fell.

Also, when my light stays on I can turn fine without the feel of the drag of the front being engaged.

The guy I bought it from told me he'd stomp the brakes once or twice and the light would turn off.

Just a old part thats stickin a little.

For a complete walkthru on how the whole engagement process works, check the link in my signature.

I figured it out. Mine was the acuator on top of the transfercase. Changed that out and all is good. Thanks for the information.. I love forums..
